Magical music and voices!
If you are devoted to this beloved classic and everything associated with it, you will not want to miss this wonderful recording of Jane Eyre as it was staged on Broadway. Marla Schaffel's voice is angelic yet strong as Jane. James Barbour is equally brilliant as Rochester. Having seen the stage production, the recording stirs many of the visual images of the musical. However, even if you did not have the good fortune to see the production, I am certain that listeners of superb music will enjoy this recording. The CD includes a detailed booklet also which will assist the listener that has not had the opportunity to see the show. Overall, this is one of the most enjoyable recordings of a stage production that I own. I listen to it frequently for the enjoyment of 'being there' at the ... The book set to music
Having read "Jane Eyre" the CD tells the story through lyrics and music. I bought this version to compare to the Toronto version and while Marla Schaffel and James Barbour are compelling as Jane and Rochester, I feel that Anthony Crivello's "Rochester" has a greater emotional connection. James Barbour has a wonderful rich baritone but I don't feel his passion. Unfortunately, The Toronto version is out of print but can be found online for those who wish to compare the two. An Amazing Adaptation
I am truly enjoying this musical adaptation of one of my favorite books. Through the music itself, I can truly imagine the story playing out, without ever having seen the musical on stage.
