About this product

Product Information

Richard's cousin is missing, and his best hope of finding her rests with the wily, one-eyed, ex-governor of Florida. Carl Hiaasen introduces his iconic character Skink to a younger audience in this nail-biting adventure A National Book Award Longlist Selection Classic Malley: her parents are about to ship her off to boarding school, so she takes off with some guy she met online... Poor Richard: he's less of a rebel than Malley, and a lot less trusting. He knows his cousin is in trouble before she does. Wild Skink: he's a ragged, one-eyed, ex-governor of Florida, and enough of a renegade to think he can track Malley down. With Richard riding shotgun, this unlikely pair scour the state, undaunted by blinding storms, crazed pigs, flying bullets, and giant gators. In Carl Hiaasen's outrageous, hilarious, and wildly dangerous state of Florida, there are a million places an outlaw might stash a teenage girl. A million unpleasant ways to die. And two who will risk everything to rescue a friend . . . and to, hopefully, exact a bit of swamp justice.

"Skink and Richard make quite a dangerous and entertaining duo in a story that careens perfectly from one crazy situation to the next. The second half of the book is a nail-biter to rival  Cape Fear . I love Hiaasen for adults. I love Hiaasen for kids. But most of all, I love  this  Hiaasen, which brings the two writers together in one book."   --Cory Doctorow "Skink and Richard make quite a dangerous and entertaining duo in a story that careens perfectly from one crazy situation to the next. • Excellent fiction for younger readers

I didn't realize when I bought it that this was a book geared toward teens. Because it's by Hiaasen, one of my favorite writers, I've gone ahead and starting reading it. I imagine teens would REALLY enjoy it. I wouldn't have bought this if I'd been thinking and should've known it was for young reader. But since I did buy it and it's easy, light reading, I zipping through it and am enjoying it.

  • That wild and crazy Dane.

First of all I should say I am not a Teen.I am a bit older. 81. The jokes on me. Nope, after I got the book I thought I might as well scan it before I gave it to a teen I know. I was very pleased to find tt this is a darned good book, and one that is perfectly safe for teens, and I am sure they will enjoy it. This is a tribute to Hiaasen. I have never read a bad book this this chap has penned, however I should say that his latest, Razor Girl, comes dangerously close to less than great. I sure hope he is not farming out books like so many other writers. But back to Skink. Buy it, you'll like it !

  • I thought I was reading a Nancy Drew until I went online and found this book is for young readers. Still, it's nice to keep up with Skink.

  • Skink never fails to make you laugh.

This may have been written for the young but take a chance if you are a little older and a fan of the Skink., He never disappoints. Nice story to go with fun characters. Really enjoyed from start to fun finish, j
