Overall Good view of tank combat in WW2

The first section of the book is actually fairly poorly written, it is not until Otto Carius is in the East that the pace and the ferocity of the fighting really pick up, as does the book. Stick with it this far and you can get to see how the German tanker in WW2 faired in combat under very harsh conditions. Although it is a very good book, parts of it are so poorly written that it can actually be a hard read. Overall, it was a good book

  • War through the eyes of a Panzer commander

The book 'Tigers in the mud' features a first hand experience of armoured warfare and tells the story of Otto carius's rise from a simple enlisted man to one of Germanys top Panzer aces over the course of the Second World War. though detail on vehicles and postions/maneuvers are light in description, the book gives you a rare chance to see how a crewman would veiw his tank and situation in battle as well as a insight of a man fighting for a Facist Germany. Strong to the story otto avoids discussing poltics thoroughly and dus spares his audience from debate and heavy disscussion on the matter. With wonderful pictures of Otto and his fellow crew and especially his Tiger 1. the book is a must have for Armoured warfare enthusiasts.
