Excellent Base Camera
I am a intern for a local newspaper. I needed a camera that had excellent zoom capability and high MP that would result in a crisp photo when enlarged. This camera suits the job perfectly . And is easy to use and very durable. My only caveat is I would advise knowing what you need a camera for to shoot. For example if you desire a camera for long range shots. Let’s say greater than 200 meters know that you will need to buy a lens in order achieve the same quality of photo. I am a intern for a local newspaper. So Many Great Features in a Little Package!
I bought this camera after weeks of research. I checked reviews of the Sony DSC-HX1 on Amazon and did a search for reviews on Google too. Most people gave it very high marks for ease of use and photo quality. Some even raved about it replacing their much heavier DSLR cameras for travel. Several people noted the high quality video that it produced (HD 1080) and others spoke highly of the manual sweep Panaromic photos it takes (those are pretty nice). What got me to buy this camera was actually seeing the range of photographs that could be taken. For that I went to Flickr and did a search for sony HX1 groups. Thats where I was tremendously impressed with the quality of photos this camera produces. Granted, the best photos are taken in manual mode where you select the best setting for ... Its very responsive when I want to take a shot and then change one or more settings. It has a nice sized screen that really shows the colors of what you are about to capture. you can also have the histograph up to help get pictures with well balance light. It captures colors and depth in macro shots beyond what I had hoped for. I havent tried to many portrait or landscape shots but the little I have done has been impressive. I also have not investigated the video too much but from what I have done and from what I found doing a search for HX1 videos on you-tube I think its pretty awesome quality.

Purchased this camera for my Home Inspection business. The picture quality is average to good however the zoom capabilities are phenomenal!! This comes in handy when I can not access some areas due to snow, rain etc. It takes good clear pictures at 20 x zoom. The video quality is also very good with lots of features to stablize the zoom while shooting. Over all for the age and price of a used camera it was a great purchase for my business.Purchased this camera for my Home Inspection business.
