For a 2nd gen - this Sandy Bridge is the one to get.

It's snappy and faster than many newer gen AMD 4 & 8-cores (I have a lot of them and ran performance tests). Out of all of the Sandy Bridge processors to get, ditch the rest and spend a few more bucks on something that's going to be much faster and still able to play modern games and run modern processor-heavy applications. Pair it up with at least 8GBs of RAM and an SSD and you will not be sorry. The only thing I would consider for anything faster would be a newer gen i5/i7 or Ryzen 8 core, which I honestly don't have a need for as they are far more expensive and may run operations faster, but is unnoticeable for most applications. In addition, LGA1155 motherboards are super cheap and offered by many manufacturers. By far, the Sandy Bridge i5 processors are some of the best bang for ...

  • It gives more than enough power for any modern software, games included.

When it came to a new box I had to consider a few things while trying to fit my very limited budgets: a) socket 2011 has been released and a $300 cpu was already coming out; b) AMD still trying to compete seducing folks on a budget with Bulldozer and such; c) ivybridge is coming very soon; d) I don't need Intel's built in graphics. These were major considerations and there were more -- too many to list. I made a decision to wait for the ivybridge while using a temporary inexpensive substitute for a processor that would be able to handle the minimum load for my work. Something to throw away later without regrets. So I bought this 2400 CPU and was I up to a surprise. I realized that I don't need anything faster. My computer runs any game faster than I need it ...

  • Great product for a great price. 8)

Great price for a great product even though it is used. Today CPU chip in the market today are way, way ridiculously overpriced!!! You can probably get for around the same cost of a brand new retail mid or high end CPU chip, a brand new laptop or desktop for around the same cost of a high end brand new retail CPU chip (Now, that's outrageously insane!!!). For now on, I'm buying CPU chip here rather for retail prices.

  • Nice entry level quad core. Decent for productivity and light gaming

Got this cpu to replace an i3 3210 and it is much better. 4 core and 4 threads combined with 8gb ram and an SSD means I can do anything I want in a casual work load. Even 1080p gaming with low settings with the right video card can work. I'm using this in a pc connected to my tv for a media center. Streaming netflix, dvds etc.

  • Great Affordable Chip

The processor works great and was affordable. It is a great affordable chip if you have a supported motherboard. Sandy Bridge still works great all these years later and it often feels just as fast as my much faster system in basic tasks. There may be better options if you are building a budget system from scratch, but if you already have a supported motherboard, this is hard to beat.
