Evanovich's stories are as addictive as chocolate and have the bite of mint, a mint chocolate treat.
Janet Evanovich is a great story teller. Fortunately for us, the readers, she is as prolific with her tale telling as she is creative with developing her characters and events. We have been treated to 28 tales about Stephanie Plum, the late 20s, not quite a yuppie, Trenton, NJ, girl who, when laid off from her job at the button factory, became a Bail Recovery Agent for her cousin Vinnie, a local Bail Bondsman, tracking down miscreants who fail to appear for their court dates. Evanovich's stories and characters are like chocolate mints for the mind: her characters are as engaging and as addictive as milk chocolate and the situations Ms E puts them through have the same bite and humor as the taste of mint, always putting a smile on your face. And one is never enough. Just when you have ... Janet Evanovich is a great story teller. And now we are introduced to Gabriella Rose, The Recovery Agent, a Soho based, self-employed, Insurance Fraud Investigator, whose cases take her to many international locations. We begin in an Ecuadorian jungle, in pursuit of an ancient amulet, and then on to the island of St Vincent, in pursuit of buried treasure. The real treasure of her books is Ms E's talent for writing. She fills each scene with such description that the reader can smell the scents, feel the heat of the day, feel the rain soaking through her poncho, the mud on her shoes and her La Perla underwear riding up. We get the tensions of the scheming characters who are less then honest with an intrusive investigator, and we enjoy the humor of both the conversations and the characters' misdeeds when things go awry. We get a confident, driven, talented professional in pursuit of high dollar junkets for her not always high dollar clients, along with Ms Rose's vulnerabilities, her Barbadian ancestry and her South Carolinian relatives. This one looks like the beginning of an exciting new series from Ms. Evanovich. I'm already looking forward for her next adventure. Another chocolate mint for the mind, book bound.
