With more than 1,300 pages and 12,500 illustrations covering 70 years, this may be the most complete visual history of the American automobile ever published. More than 250 manufacturers and hundreds of individual models trace the evolution of the American automobile, from the millions of Model Ts that rolled off Ford's assembly line through the art deco streamliners of the '30s, to the tail-finned land yachts of the '50s and muscle cars of the '60s and '70s up to the early SUVs of the '90s. Throughout author Tad Burness adds handwritten details not found anywhere else, including pointing out unusual options and differences found within a model. Vast, emcompassing, and sometimes jumbled history of the (mostly) American auto and auto industry.

Interesting and fun book, a LOT of information crammed onto every page - not always a good thing. I'm still trying to figure out the layout. It's also too bad there are NO color illustrations for the later years. Nevertheless, a lot of fun. Quite a few makes and models I had never heard of. This book is also heavy!

    Drab reference book

The cover and the title suggest a fun gift book, but this heavy volume is very utilitarian. It's all in black and white, and the layouts look like the dealership pages of an old newspaper, with cluttered images of the models for a given year crisscrossing the page. It even seems to have been printed on newsprint. It seems to be very comprehensive, I'll give it that. Maybe I'm not the target audience. This is definitely more a nuts-and-bolts reference book than a trip down memory lane.

  • My Dad Had That CarA Nostalgia C American Automobile 1920-1990 and it was terrific and a great value delivered early.

Absolutely Amazing and in such great shape we thought it was brand new. It has filled the Super Hot days and reminded or cars I forgot owning. I should have bought another for my brother...we were both car nuts from the late 30s and still are. We just don't buy a new car /truck/motorcycle quite so regularly. Now it has to last a couple of years but back then, every 6 to 9 months snd we were ready for a new one!
