Bringing a new level of versatility and capability to flash photography, the Speedlite 430EX II features a powerful flash (guide number of 141 ft./43m at ISO 100) with a fast recycling time in a compact, durable body. A one-touch quick-lock mechanism makes it easy to attach or detach the 430EX II from the camera and a metal foot has been added for strength and durability. Flash controls can now be set through the camera's LCD screen on compatible EOS Digital SLR cameras. The Speedlite 430EX II is also quieter, recycle time is 20% faster (as compared to the 430EX) and since it is compatible with Canon's wireless E-TTL, it can be used as an affordable "slave unit".

    I would recomend this as a top rate speedlite.

    This is an awesome flash. I needed to get a new flash and after reading the specs of canon's 4 current speedlites I decided it was down to this one and the 580 EXII. There is a massive price jump between the 430EXII and the 580 EXII, so if you are a pro I would recomend the 580 EXII. However if you are unsure then this is the Speedlie you want, anything less is would be a waste. Pro or novice(like me) this is great value for money. This has everything you need, with out overwhelming you with what the flash can do, if you require a second/slave flash and you have the 580 EXII then this is what you want also. It is compatable with the 500d, 550D, and the 600D. (entry level DSLRs). I would imagine it would be compatable with all of Canon's other DSLRs but you would need to check ...

    Seriously consider getting one if you want to make the step to becoming pro

    Brilliant! I bought this for my first wedding shoot, and can honestly say that I wouldn't have got the shots I got had I gone without any light. I kept it on the automatic ETTL setting, but I strongly recommend trying to master the manual mode. Also, I'd buy a diffuser (which are cheap) to put on the top of it to eliminate the harshness it can cause. Being able to angle the flash to bounce of the ceiling behind me gave me the best shots. Also used it wirelessly to get some nice side light which looks very cool indeed! Used with a Canon 60D.

    Not cheap but really good!

    I am so impressed with this flash! What I particularly like, apart from the well exposed results, is the simplicity of use and the seamless integration with my D60. You can "plug and play" or take control. It also works brilliantly off camera using the D60's wireless facility so you can site the flash well away from the camera and at an angle. This eliminates red eye and allows you to vary the modelling of your subject. Not cheap but really good. It does gobble batteries but that's not unusual. I'd definitely buy another if this was lost and I am starting to think about using a pair wirelessly. Steve

    A Wonderful item, great product with excellent results.

    I bought this product because I needed a flash for my Canon5D mark 2, the best thing about this flash 430EX is that it is easy to use and works fine for the odd locations I will need it for, but when I purchased this item it was advertised as a speedlite 430EX mark 2, and when I finally unpacked it I found it was the old model not the model which was advertised. Because it worked OK I did not complain or send the item back, even though I know I paid over the odds for a older model.

    Amazing flash

    I had to shoot and only had 1 flash, decided to get another one, decided to buy another brand (YN) and I wasn't lucky, the flash came broken, so, decided to buy another 430ex. this flash is a work horse, never fails, in one session it fired over 200 times with a full charged set of batteries. there is nothing I could say against it and would buy as many 430ex as I need
