About this product

Product Information

Those of you who liked to street race when you were young and reckless (or those of you planning to in a few years) can now relive those years in Test Drive 6. Select from 12 sports and muscle cars and race on one of 24 different tracks set among 12 real world locales such as Honolulu, London, and San Francisco. There's even a Cop Chase mode wherein you get to nab other drivers and write up tickets, thus seeing (or foreseeing) your reckless years from the other point-of-view.<br><br>Once you enter your name in the main screen, you can head out for a single race or enter a tournament. A battery in the game pak keeps track of your progress, letting you look at everything from your high scores to your best track times and all your vehicles and their upgrades. The single race is really more of a practice run since the tournament is where the meat of the game is.<br><br>There are six tournaments in all, each tougher than the last. There are three races in each tournament, and as you move through the tournaments the races get longer, starting with two laps each and increasing to eight laps in the final round of races, the Winner's Cup. You must finish in at least third place to move to the next race. The tournaments must be played in succession, and when you've completed all of them you will unlock the Mega Cup, which has bonus tracks and secret vehicles.<br><br>Depending on how well you fare in each race, you will earn money to upgrade your cars as well as power-ups in four different areas, top speed, acceleration, traction and power bursts. Power bursts are used during the race to give you speed boosts and aren't replenished between races. You can horde up to 99 of them.<br><br>If you want a break from racing, you can select one of four police cars and enter Cop Chase mode. In this game you have one minute to pull over as many racers and write them tickets as you can. Every ticket adds to your tournament bankroll, which goes toward buying more cars.<br><br>Test Drive 6 is playable on the original Game Boy as well as the Game Boy Color. It's for one player only.

    Test Drive 6

    This Game Boy game is very elementary. It just isn't as challenging as some of the other Game Boy games. The picture of the sports car on the front makes you want to buy it - but it should have a car that's a little more realistic. Granted this is an older game, but it just seems more like an Arcade game than a Game Boy game. Maybe if this had been one of the first games I had bought I would feel differently about it. But, since this was the 14th game it was just a little disappointing.

    Better than average race game - 3 & half stars

    This is an OK race game. Enough cars to choose from and the tracks are challenging enough to be fun. This won't be your favorite race game by any means, but it is better than a lot of the other race games available. Look for a good deal and give it a spin.
