2011 debut full length from the Folk/Country duo. The Civil Wars consists of John Paul White, hailing from Florence, AL and Joy Williams, originally from Santa Cruz, CA, but now residing in East Nashville. The duo's chance meeting a year and a half ago fueled an immediate songwriting chemistry and creative synergy. Their second show ever, performed at a sold out Eddie's Attic, was recorded and released as a free digital album.     The Civil Wars: Barton Hollow CD (2011)

    Ok I really wanted to give this CD 3.5 stars, eBay will not allow that, so I gave it 4 stars. First of all, Joy Williams and John Paul White (The Civil Wars) have angelic voices, that create pure magic when combined. I've listened to this CD on a cheap CD player and a very expensive sound system and I still have my one complaint. Whomever mixed this session, needs to get their ears checked. I'm sorry but when the acoustic guitar is hogging some of the same sonic space as the vocals, I get put off. It is a simple mix down procedure to ensure that the vocals rise above every other instrument in the mix. Not so with this CD. I reckon it must have been a somewhat low budget affair, which is truly sad, because these two fine musicians can really sing and compose excellent songs. They deserve to ...

    A brilliant debut

    If you saw The Civil Wars on Jools Holland recently you will already know what a major talent they are. If not then I suggest you check out this superb debut album. Close knit harmonies and excellent song writing combine to make this one of the albums of 2011, all delivered with a deep south twist that comes direct from the classic american songbook, quite simply brilliant.
