The Girl in the Red Velvet Swing (DVD, 2007)
Interesting old movie about actual historical events. Two rich men fighting over a beautiful young woman ended up in murder, and only proved that even 100 years ago, the rich don't go to jail. Business man and famous architect Sanford White, fell in love with a beautiful young show girl named Evelyn Nesbitt. She was only sixteen or seventeen years old, and was in the follies cabaret. White was an older married man who kept a "play-pen" type of apartment where he entertained his many trists. One of its features was a red velvet covered swing that soared high over the ceiling up to a porthole on the dome. He was honest with Evelyn about being married, and that he wasn't planning to get divorced. According to all who knew him, he was an honest man. He had been the architect who has built the ... Another man who was the son of a steel tycoon, Harry Kendall Thaw, fancied Evelyn, not so much for any other reason than she was beautiful, and she belonged to Stanford White. Thaw hated White and somehow had made up his mind that everything bad in his life was Stanford White's fault. To say that Thaw was unbalanced was an under statement. He was insane. As Stanford tried to convince Evelyn that there was no future for them, and tried to expose her to an education, she only loved him more. Sick with grief, she accepts a visit from Thaw. Totally on the rebound, she marries Thaw. He is insanely jealous concerning everything ever between Evelyn and White. His mind filled with demons, he shoots and kills Stanford White at a society function in front hundreds of witnesses. In a landmark insanity plea, Evelyn is branded a tramp and White is demonized as the womanizer. Thaw was acquitted and Evelyn returned to the Broadway stage.

I knew the story but liked watching the Hollywood version- Joan Collins & Ray Miland both excellent in their parts. Great quality- a keeper! Thank you.

The Girl in the Red Velvet Swing
It was interesting, especially since based on an actual incident. However, a documentary on the same subject portrayed some of the characters a little differently. Let's just say that the film producer took some license with the story and perhaps made some changes to make it the way he wanted it, not necessarily the way it was. It was worth watching nevertheless. A colorful and surprisingly scandalous film for the time period. The year it was made was 1955 but it took place shortly after the turn of the 20th century.It was interesting, especially since based on an actual incident.
