    Acceptable light duty front rack

Lower attachment is to the brake pivot bolts. I purchased new, longer bolts, existing bolts were a bit short when the rack mounting was installed. It's a light duty unit, do not dream of loading it to the stated, rated 40 lbs.

  • Top critical review

Mounting hardware was basically useless - but cheap and you can make it work with some creativity

Mounting hardware just wasn't useful. Directions were worthless without a magnifying glass. I was able to get mine solidly mounted using a hammer to remold the bracket that attaches the fork to the rack, and a trip to the hardware store for some misc nuts/bolts. Works for me, but wouldn't for others.

  • Lightweight, seems solid enough, awful / misleading instructions.

The rack itself seems decent. Easy install, and seems good enough to handle light loads - I don't think I'd trust it with a 40lb load, but it seems like it'd be fine for 10-15lb at least. Instructions are printed so small that they're nearly illegible, and the diagram is so small that the printer they used can't actually print with enough detail to make it useful. On top of that, the written instructions describe an installation process that isn't physically possible, at least not with the mounting hardware provided, on any bike with the standard V/Cantilever brake posts that the rack is supposed to mount to. That said, it is possible to mount the rack, with the hardware provided, if you ignore the instructions. It seems sturdy enough, and the price is right. So, 4 stars.

  • Excellent Rack

I've owned a lot of bicycles and a lot of racks, and I can say that this one is a goodie. Would I load 75 pounds of gear on it for a circumnavigation of the planet? No. But that's not what it's for. I installed this on a Surly Ogre fork, attaching at my unused rim brake posts, and it's perfect for short excursions: weekend or several days. I even modified it a bit by adding a wider and longer deck on top of the one that's already there, so I can now carry my tent up front, leaving my rear panniers open for additional gear. May try to add some simple side frames so that I can use small front panniers. At $15, this rack is a steal. Very sturdy, no movement if installed correctly. Welds look good and solid. YES, all three mounting points (fork crown, brake posts) are fully ...
