    Right in My Soul by Candy Dulfer

    I'm a big fan of Candy Dulfer, who is a great sax player, and not to mention totally gorgeous, and I've even seen her perform live, and enjoyed it immensely, but this album doesn't rate with some of the rest of her catalogue. The album doesn't "cook." While all of the tracks rate as funk/soul, with a taste of jazz, most are listless, and she commits the cardinal sin, in my opinion, of using a drum machine on most tracks. Shame on the producer. Even the famous tune, Valdez in the Country, which she covers here with the legendary Maceo Parker, "doesn't go any anywhere." A handful of the tracks are decent, such as Freak Out, or What's in Your Head, and Dulfer's lyrics and vocals have improved dramatically, but the album is not memorable, and I do NOT recommend it.
