About this product

Product Information

Once upon a time in Provence, Peter Mayle adopted a dog of uncertain origins and dubious hunting skills and gave him a name--Boy. Now he gives this canny canine a voice in an irresistible "memoir" that proves that the best vantage point for observing life may well be on all fours. As Boy recounts his progress from an overcrowded maternal bosom to unchallenged mastery of the Mayle household, he tells us why dogs are drawn to humans ("our most convenient support system") and chickens ("that happy combination of sport and nourishment"). We share in his amorous dalliances, his run-ins with French plumbers and cats, and in the tidbits (both conversational and edible) of his owners' dinner parties. Enhanced by fifty-nine splendidly whimsical drawings by Edward Koren, A Dog's Life gives us all the delights we expect from any book by Peter Mayle--pedigree prose, biting wit, and a keen nose for the fragrance of civilization--together with the insouciant wisdom of which only a dog (and probably only Peter Mayle's dog) is capable.

Product is 95% alike picture but a little more blurry. Controller play well but had a notice from psn that my joypad wasn't authentic and could by problematic🤷‍♂️ no trouble so far! Shipping was fast but no tracking and worst packaging ever.. like the box came banged up... send a question to seller never had a reply 😅.... Good product overall, excellent price, fast shipping, wrapped only on 4 sides out of 6, no tracking and never reply... 4★ product / 2★ seller ✌️

The book is in perfect condition, brand new, and is exactly as described. This item is difficult to find here, and the seller priced it very reasonably. It shipped from the UK to Canada, and unfortunately took a little longer to arrive than the seller hoped, but it was shipped less than 24 hours after I purchased. When I contacted the seller, they were very responsive and helpful. I would not hesitate to purchase from this seller again. Definitely recommend!

  • A great read!

What a fabulous find was A Dog's Life by Peter Mayle. Written with great style and wit, Mayle introduces the reader to a dog's-eye-view of southern France and the sometimes quiet, sometimes zany life of his owners. The highbrow accent (sooo French!) of a lowly stray mutt punctuates the hilarious musings of this hero, named Dog, as he watches his owners and their rude rural neighbor tangle with a pompous American guest, or as he encounters his first cat while both are accidentally locked in a cluttered garage. This book so delighted me that I decided to buy a copy for everyone in my family for Christmas. It's a great read, whether in a cozy nook in your favorite room or (as I did) aloud to your husband while riding in the car. So what are you waiting for?

  • A dog-owners must read!

Peter Mayle is an excellent contemporary author. Through the eyes of his dog you can have a taste of France without leaving home. Getting inside the head of his dog gives me pause; what are my two dogs thinking about me? The humor is fantastic. A definite must read for anyone who thinks they own a dog. (They own us!)

  • A Dog's Life by Peter Mayle (1996)

I really enjoyed reading this story from the dogs point of view and experienced many bursts of laughing out loud at the doggie tales froma canine viewpoint, especially when he was out on his own before the family. Very fast read, sorry when it ended.
