God is sovereign
I have read a few of Dr. Sproul's works and they have never disappointed; especially within the realm of doctrine. R.C. does a tremendous job explaining the doctrine of predestination or election from the Reformed perspective. The book zooms in on questions such as Who is the sovereign one--man or God? If man is sovereign then man chooses God out of his own volition for salvation. If God is sovereign then God freely chooses whom He will save. The book covers human free will in emphasizing more on the Augustinian view, not Pelagianism or semi-Pelagianism (Arminianism); that man does not have the ability to choose God due to the Fall (taught in the Calvinistic community as Total Depravity). As a Calvinist, the writer conveys the point that God freely chooses people before they even did any ... I have read a few of Dr. Sproul's works and they have never disappointed; especially within the realm of doctrine. R. C. Sproul has been well known for many years as a Christian writer, teacher, lecturer, and founder of Ligonier Ministies. He wrote this book in the 1980s; the '90s date, I believe, refers to its release as a softcover. A serious book about a subject like predestination (a/k/a election) is not going to be a "best-seller," even in Christian circles. But if you want a clear, readable, understandable explanation of this concept from a Reformed viewpoint, this is the book to turn to. Although not a new work, the book is still fresh and interesting to read, and it answers the questions people may be expected to have: How can a God of love also be a God of justice? Where does free will come into the picture if God chooses who will be saved? Can God be trusted? Another good thing about ... R. C. Whether you agree with what the writer says or not, you'll find this book very worthwhile.
