About this product

Product Information

This novel of awesome beauty and power is a moving saga about people, relationships, and the boundaries of love. Nominated as one of America's best-loved novels by PBS's The Great American Read Through Jean M. Auel's magnificent storytelling we are taken back to the dawn of modern humans, and with a girl named Ayla we are swept up in the harsh and beautiful Ice Age world they shared with the ones who called themselves the Clan of the Cave Bear . A natural disaster leaves the young girl wandering alone in an unfamiliar and dangerous land until she is found by a woman of the Clan, people very different from her own kind. To them, blond, blue-eyed Ayla looks peculiar and ugly--she is one of the Others, those who have moved into their ancient homel∧ but Iza cannot leave the girl to die and takes her with them. Iza and Creb, the old Mog-ur, grow to love her, and as Ayla learns the ways of the Clan and Iza's way of healing, most come to accept her. But the brutal and proud youth who is destined to become their next leader sees her differences as a threat to his authority. He develops a deep and abiding hatred for the strange girl of the Others who lives in their midst, and is determined to get his revenge.

The book is in perfect condition, brand new, and is exactly as described. This item is difficult to find here, and the seller priced it very reasonably. It shipped from the UK to Canada, and unfortunately took a little longer to arrive than the seller hoped, but it was shipped less than 24 hours after I purchased. When I contacted the seller, they were very responsive and helpful. I would not hesitate to purchase from this seller again. Definitely recommend!

    Excellent Read

I read this book many years ago and enjoyed it so much that I knew that I would be reading it again, but have moved several times since then, my copy was misplaced and finally disappeared all together. I have now obtained a used copy of this excellent book and am again captivated by this depiction of a thoroughly modern woman in a prehistoric world. The descriptions of the characters is completely believable and compelling. Descriptive passages of people of the stone age world and their environment are vivid. Much of the story takes place in Ayla's mind as her emerging evolutionary intellect enables her to cope with the perils and challenges of a very dangerous and violent young Earth.

  • Enjoyable and informational read. Highly recommend.

Jean Auel takes us back to the dawn of Man, and the rift between Neanderthal Man and their predecessors. One lost little girl loses her whole world in an earthquake and sets out in search of food. Instead, she is stumbled upon by a group of "Flatheads" who are vastly different from her own people. With them, she learns a new way to speak, to act, and all the necessary skills she would need in order to survive in the Periglacial era in which she lives. Aul's descriptions are rich and well informed, supported by maps and a vast knowledge of flora and fauna of that period. Techniques and medical practices used by them, and food preparations are described at length. This story is the beginning of Ayla's adventures and where she learns who and what she is, and ...

  • I have aread all of these books Wonderful BUT.......

I love this book I have read all of them and keep updates on all of Jeans Auels stuff, I will tell you at the age of 10 I started to read these books and I read them at the very least once a year, you have to keep the info updated as she is slow in writing her books and that in itself is reason to reread them and or even buy them... as this woman has great detail in her books, and for a 10 year old reading it wow!!!! however I am 31 years old an still read them today at least once a year I have both hard back and soft cover.... I will tell you please though look at the first book if your buying the green cover make sure it is fully intacked and the pages are not mixe up as I have bought the green cover softcover and the last 200 pages were indeed mixed up.,.. make sure that you get the ...

  • Amazing Earth Children Book Series!!!

I read these books several times when I was younger, and they are truly amazing. The author spent over 10 years just researching the content she wrote about, so that the story-line is as accurate as possible. I recommend these books to anyone. There are some graphic romance scenes that might be inappropriate for the younger audience, but they are excellent for adult readers. The story is insightful from beginning to end, and the character depth is awesome. M favorite books of all time!

  • The Clan of the Cave bear by Jean M Auel

This is one of five books completing a series. I had 3 of the books and needed this one and another book to complete it. I love this book, I think the author is very good. It is an interesting series about the people living in the ice age. Jean Auel is a wonderful storyteller. I hate putting the book down it is that good. Years ago I read the three books and decided to read the whole thing that is why I purchase the 2 other books. I usually like romance books, so this is a change for me. This book is about a young girl wandering alone, she is taken into the clan of the cave bear and learns their way. The series continues about her life and how people lived during that time.
