About this product

Product Information

Written in a prose of almost biblical simplicity and beauty, it is the story of a soul's long quest in search of he ultimate answer to the enigma of man's role on this earth. As a youth, the young Indian Siddhartha meets the Buddha but cannot be content with a disciple's role: he must work out his own destiny and solve his own doubt--a tortuous road that carries him through the sensuality of a love affair with the beautiful courtesan Kamala, the temptation of success and riches, the heartache of struggle with his own son, to final renunciation and self-knowledge. The name "Siddhartha" is one often given to the Buddha himself--perhaps a clue to Hesse's aims in contrasting the traditional legendary figure with his own conception, as a European (Hesse was Swiss), of a spiritual explorer.

"The cool and strangely simple story makes a beautiful little book, classic in proportion and sty≤ it should be read slowly and with savor, preferably during the lonely hours of the night." -- The Nation "One could even hope that Hesse's readers are hungrily imbibing , and that they will be so wisely foolish as to live by it." -- Chicago Tribune "Hermann Hesse is the greatest writer of the century." -- San Francisco Chronicle "In the setting is Indian and we encounter the Buddha, but the author's ethos is still closer to Goethe." -- Washington Post Book World, In Siddhartha the setting is Indian and we encounter the Buddha, but the author's ethos is still closer to Goethe., The cool and strangely simple story makes a beautiful little book, classic in proportion and style; it should be read slowly and with savor, preferably during the lonely hours of the night., One could even hope that Hesse's readers are hungrily imbibing Siddhartha, and that they will be so wisely foolish as to live by it.

Product is 95% alike picture but a little more blurry. Controller play well but had a notice from psn that my joypad wasn't authentic and could by problematic🤷‍♂️ no trouble so far! Shipping was fast but no tracking and worst packaging ever.. like the box came banged up... send a question to seller never had a reply 😅.... Good product overall, excellent price, fast shipping, wrapped only on 4 sides out of 6, no tracking and never reply... 4★ product / 2★ seller ✌️

The book is in perfect condition, brand new, and is exactly as described. This item is difficult to find here, and the seller priced it very reasonably. It shipped from the UK to Canada, and unfortunately took a little longer to arrive than the seller hoped, but it was shipped less than 24 hours after I purchased. When I contacted the seller, they were very responsive and helpful. I would not hesitate to purchase from this seller again. Definitely recommend!

  • An important book for anyone on a journey...

This is a beautiful story. I initially borrowed it from a friend and, as happens with the world's greatest stories, it was just the right time for me to read it. I strongly recommend it to anyone taking a journey of any kind, particularly a Spiritual one. It can be read as a simple, pleasant story, or you can read into it as a metaphor. In this way, the book seems to hold wisdom for every person who has the opportunity to read it. Siddhartha is on a journey himself, a spiritual quest. I now own a copy myself - one of the few books I will read multiple times in my life, and have bought a copy for my brother. It is a great story for anyone trying to 'find themselves'.

  • Classic book at good used price

Bought this as a sentimental reminder of its value to me 45 years ago. Only downside is the previous owner made notes throughout the book in ink, but I bought it as used.

  • Peaceful reading with a smile

I really enjoyed readin this book, it was easy to understand and it answer alot of my questions about buddhist and where it first began. I mostly enjoyed that it had a little bit of drama in it and kept me interested and at the same time reading the book gave me some peace. very nice. I would highly recommended this book, nothing to do with religion at all just a story of a young man that finds peace within himself. Wish I could reach atleast 1% of what Siddhartha was able to achieve here in this life.

  • Siddhartha
