About this product

Product Information

On a visit to the Mandarin Islands, Louis Trevelyan falls in love with Emily, the daughter of the governor, and they are swiftly married and return to live in London. But when a friend of Emily's father - the meddlesome libertine Colonel Osborne - starts paying rather too much attention to the young woman, Louis is consumed by jealousy and refuses to listen to his wife's pleas of innocence. And as his suspicions become increasingly obsessive and the marriage collapses, Louis finds himself driven to desperate actions. In He Knew He Was Right (1869), Trollope created a highly sympathetic portrait of a deeply troubled marriage, and a compelling psychological story of sexual obsession in his portrait of a nineteenth-century Othello.

Product is 95% alike picture but a little more blurry. Controller play well but had a notice from psn that my joypad wasn't authentic and could by problematic🤷‍♂️ no trouble so far! Shipping was fast but no tracking and worst packaging ever.. like the box came banged up... send a question to seller never had a reply 😅.... Good product overall, excellent price, fast shipping, wrapped only on 4 sides out of 6, no tracking and never reply... 4★ product / 2★ seller ✌️

The book is in perfect condition, brand new, and is exactly as described. This item is difficult to find here, and the seller priced it very reasonably. It shipped from the UK to Canada, and unfortunately took a little longer to arrive than the seller hoped, but it was shipped less than 24 hours after I purchased. When I contacted the seller, they were very responsive and helpful. I would not hesitate to purchase from this seller again. Definitely recommend!

  • Trollope Knew Who Was Right--and it's not always necessarily the guy!

The introduction to this book (the edition I bought, that is) describes it as a study in pathological jealousy, and goes on to explain how carefully Trollope, as a Victorian-era writer, had to handle this theme, as compared to Shakespeare with Othello, since in his day and age Shakespeare was allowed to be louche. He Knew He Was Right is a remarkable novel, the main plot and all the subplots very absorbing. Beyond that, though, it represents one of many times Trollope, in his novels, demonstrated his respect for women--something I think we don't necessarily expect from male writers of that time period. A wonderful, thought-provoking book--I highly recommend it.
