About this product
Product Information
Leslie McFarlane was born in 1902 and raised in a small Canadian mining town. Driven to write, he skipped college and instead served an apprenticeship ship at a series of gritty daily newspapers. By the mid-1920s, McFarlane was worn down by the long hours and low pay. That's when he stumbled upon an advertisement: "Experienced Fiction Writer Wanted to Work from Publisher's Outlines." The ad was signed by Edward Stratemeyer, whose syndicate effectively invented mass-market children's-book publishing in America. Betting on his own talent and ambition, McFarlane quit newspaper work to write fiction full time. He was soon given an assignment that changed his life: to ghostwrite a brand-new adventure series called the Hardy Boys Mysteries. Adopting the nom de plume Franklin W. Dixon, McFarlane went on to write twenty-one Hardy Boys books, from The Tower Treasure in 1927 to The Phantom Freighter in 1947. When McFarlane died, in 1977, unofficial sales estimates of the Hardy Boys series had already topped fifty million copies. Ghost of the Hardy Boys-with an introduction by Marilyn S. Greenwald-shines like a flashlight through a dark night and illuminates the mystery of the fascinating man behind one of the most widely read and enduring book series in history. Book jacket.

Reviews
"A must read by all fans of the Hardy Boys and even other Stratemeyer Syndicate series." -- The Hardy Boys Wiki "Leslie McFarlane has written more fiction than most authors on the North American Continent--lord knows how many millions of words. In this book, is not only a ghostwriter of the immortal Hardy Boys who speaks to us: it is a sensitive man who delights in recollection. McFarlane's memoirs have a special romance, lyrical and profound." --MacKinlay Kantor, Pulitzer Prize-winning author of Andersonville, " Ghost of the Hardy Boys is an elegant book, full of charm and pathos and whimsy. The writing is restrained, the characterizations deep and rich, the humor nuanced." -- Washington Post "Written with the same fluid, energetic, and humorous style that brought life to the sleuthing Hardy siblings, this is an enjoyable memoir from a writer who loved his job." -- Library Journal "A must read by all fans of the Hardy Boys and even other Stratemeyer Syndicate series." -- The Hardy Boys Wiki "Leslie McFarlane has written more fiction than most authors on the North American Continent--lord knows how many millions of words. Product is 95% alike picture but a little more blurry. Controller play well but had a notice from psn that my joypad wasn't authentic and could by problematic🤷♂️ no trouble so far! Shipping was fast but no tracking and worst packaging ever.. like the box came banged up... send a question to seller never had a reply 😅.... Good product overall, excellent price, fast shipping, wrapped only on 4 sides out of 6, no tracking and never reply... 4★ product / 2★ seller ✌️

The book is in perfect condition, brand new, and is exactly as described. This item is difficult to find here, and the seller priced it very reasonably. It shipped from the UK to Canada, and unfortunately took a little longer to arrive than the seller hoped, but it was shipped less than 24 hours after I purchased. When I contacted the seller, they were very responsive and helpful. I would not hesitate to purchase from this seller again. Definitely recommend!
