About this product

Product Information

Living with a Brother or Sister with Special Needsfocuses on the intensity of emotions that brothers and sisters experience when they have a sibling with special needs, and the hard questions they ask: What caused my sibling's disability? Could my own child have a disability as well? What will happen to my brother or sister if my parents die? Written for young readers, the book discusses specific disabilities in easy to understand terms. It talks about the good and not-so-good parts of having a brother or sister who has special needs, and offers suggestions for how to make life easier for everyone in the family. The book is a wonderful resource, not just for siblings and their parents but also for teachers and other professionals who work with children with special needs. This revised and updated edition includes new sections on attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, fetal alcohol syndrome, fragile X syndrome, traumatic brain injuries, ultrasound, speech therapy, recent legislation on disabilities, and an extensive bibliography.

"This is a book that has long been awaited! [It] can be highly recommended to families, support groups, professionals and libraries." - School Social Work Journal"Good writing for children is relatively ageless and it is a tribute to the authors that most grown-ups would find it tolerable, even pleasurable, to read. The tone is marvelous; there is nothing patronizing about the style. This is a gem of a book." - JASH, "This is a book that has long been awaited! Shipping was fast but no tracking and worst packaging ever.. like the box came banged up... send a question to seller never had a reply 😅.... Good product overall, excellent price, fast shipping, wrapped only on 4 sides out of 6, no tracking and never reply... 4★ product / 2★ seller ✌️

The book is in perfect condition, brand new, and is exactly as described. This item is difficult to find here, and the seller priced it very reasonably. It shipped from the UK to Canada, and unfortunately took a little longer to arrive than the seller hoped, but it was shipped less than 24 hours after I purchased. When I contacted the seller, they were very responsive and helpful. I would not hesitate to purchase from this seller again. Definitely recommend!

My 9 year old son was injured at birth and now has Cerebral Palsy. This book has shown me how my other children feel, through their eyes, what everyday life is like having a brother who is not capable of doing everyday things that other children can do. He has a twin brother who is exactly what he would be if he was capable of doing normal everyday tasks. My older son who is currently 13 years old has had alot of concerns for my son and so has his little sister who is currently 4 years old. This book definitely gives me comfort knowing that what my children are going through is perfectly normal!
