Parallel zur staatlichen Wiedervereinigung vollzog sich der Zusammenschluss des organisierten Sports in Ost- und Westdeutschland. Hierbei wurden die ehemaligen DDR-Sportstrukturen fast vollstandig aufgelost. Dies verwundert insofern, als zumindest der dortige Leistungssport ungleich erfolgreicher agierte als sein westdeutsches Gegenstuck, auch erfolgreicher als der jetzige gesamtdeutsche Sport. Ausgehend von diesem Befund wird die Problematik der sportlichen Wiedervereinigung untersucht, deren Realisierung bewertet, Gemeinsamkeiten und Unterschiede der unterschiedlichen (Sport-)Systeme werden beleuchtet, Anspruche und Realitaten, Normenvorgaben und Rechtswirklichkeit miteinander verglichen. Letztlich soll die Arbeit die Frage beantworten, ob das erzielte Resultat rechtlich geboten war bzw. welche Elemente des DDR-Sports alternativ oder kumulativ hatten miteinbezogen werden konnen."
