Quality copy of music classic at low price.
I had been looking for a clean copy of this music classic. The price was good, the shipping cheap and fast. The CD was in mint condition and plays perfectly. Cheaper than downloading even with shipping. Very satisfactory purchase.

Fall in love with the music ofrom "Victory at Sea"
I bought this CD because I remember watching the "Victory at Sea" television series in 1952 and immediately fell in love with the opening theme: "Song of the High Seas". I like to read about navy history and appreciate the sacrifices made by my father's generation. The CD is terrific with the instruments of the orchestra clearly heard. The music is rousing and I vividly picture the prow of the warship slicing through the seas while "Beneath the Southern Cross" played. An excellent reissue.
I have owned this recording in two different LP versions (original pressing and '70s reissue) and now this CD reissue. This CD has been remixed from the 3 track master tape. The sound of this CD is better than either LP version. It has lower distortion and wider frequency response. The mixes are slightly different, but very similar. It is interesting that you can hear the sounds of the orchestra shuffling slightly between pieces. They did not fade that out. It sounds more like a live performance. My system is no longer set up for the older Dolby surround format, so I can't comment on that aspect. They don't write them like this anymore
If you are a fan of the original documentary series (and I am) one of the things that strikes you is the accompanying music. Written by the great Richard Rodgers the actual suite of music encompasses 13 continuous hours. The first Victory at Sea suite was one of the first vinyl records I ever bought in the days before there was such a thing as a CD. Hurricane Katrina drowned that copy so I was quit pleased to see that it had been reissued in digital format. If I have any problem with the recording it is this: The original vinyl had 9 tracks and pretty well told the story of the second World War at sea from beginning to end. They have added 4 extra tracks, probably just because they could, and the extra tracks sort of break up the narrative. But his is just a minor quibble about a product ... 1992 good compilation of music from the original TV series. Sound not quite as bold or rich as I had hoped. Does not play serious stereo in my car. Almost missed the narrator voice over. Otherwise, good version. Product in excellent condition as advertized.
