About this product

Product Information

A book whose sales have not diminished but rather increased dramatically since its publication 45 years ago, this bestselling classic is the ultimate manual of drawing taught by the late Robert Beverly Hale, who's famed lectures and classes at New York City's Art Student League captivated artists and art educators from around the world. Faithfully producing and methodically analyzing 100 master drawings--including works of Michelangelo, Leonardo da Vinci, Rodin, Goya, and Rembrandt among others--Hale shows how these artists tackled basic problems such as line, light and planes, mass, position and thrust, and anatomy. With detailed analytical captions and diagrams, every lesson is clearly delineated and illustrated. Throughout, also, is commentary that sheds light on the creative process of drawing and offers deep insight into the unsurpassed achievements of the masters.

Product is 95% alike picture but a little more blurry. Controller play well but had a notice from psn that my joypad wasn't authentic and could by problematic🤷‍♂️ no trouble so far! Shipping was fast but no tracking and worst packaging ever.. like the box came banged up... send a question to seller never had a reply 😅.... Good product overall, excellent price, fast shipping, wrapped only on 4 sides out of 6, no tracking and never reply... 4★ product / 2★ seller ✌️

The book is in perfect condition, brand new, and is exactly as described. This item is difficult to find here, and the seller priced it very reasonably. It shipped from the UK to Canada, and unfortunately took a little longer to arrive than the seller hoped, but it was shipped less than 24 hours after I purchased. When I contacted the seller, they were very responsive and helpful. I would not hesitate to purchase from this seller again. Definitely recommend!

  • Required for class, glad I bought It

In depth analysis of 100 master drawings by Robert Beverly Hale, in regard to light, mass, anatomy and why something works when it's demonstrated with skill and lots and lots of practice. Not a flashy book by any means, but one that will help the serious art student that will take the time to look at and READ each breakdown, understand what's happening, and even copy each drawing (as I was instructed to do by my teacher at the Art Students League in NYC). Robert Beverly Hale was an instructor at The Art Students League for forty years. This book was first published in 1964, and has not changed since it's first publishing. This is the 45th Anniversary Edition printed in 2009 with a forward by Jacob Collins who was also a student at the League.

  • Don't buy this book if you think you know it all...

Most people flip through a book before buying it. Most people start reading texts somewhere near the beginning. I start from the back cover and test my mettle against what should be the author's best or most challenging test of skill. My conclusion? Start from the beginning and work your way up to a remarkable skill set. There's really something to learn here for everyone: Everyone from a near absolute novice to an accomplished draughtsman can glean a noteworthy lesson from Robert B. Half. I don't usually take the time to write reviews: There's nothing in it for me. I was just impressed: I'm not easily impressed...

  • Getting Serious About Drawing

If you're serious about drawing the human head and figure, this book is very useful. It presents elements and techniques of drawing (line, value, anatomy, etc.) using drawings of the Masters as teaching examples. Each section introduces drawing concepts then a series of drawings further illustrates the concepts. Each drawing has a matching page of commentary by the author, including a thumbnail with letters overlaying it that correspond to the author's notes. Highly recommended.

  • A must have for students of Figure Drawing

This book is packed with fantastic illustrations. This book is extremely helpful if you're trying to understand the human figure and the challenges that arise when drawing it. There's not doubt that the great masters of figure drawing can be of great help when trying to solve problems of perspective, foreshortening among other things. This book has the brilliant solutions of the great masters when dealing with the human body. I have personally learned so many things from this book. Highly recommended.

  • Really. Drawing Lessons From the Great Masters

So insightful. I have no idea how to draw, but this book is so poignant that I really feel the knowledge is being passed on from the great masters.
