    A lost classic amonst horror/cop-thrillers

    I came across this movie along with other William Lustig films in the late 1980's, and they always had a darkly atmospheric tension behind them. Although the story-lines don't have much depth or character, these little action thrillers are great for an evenings entertainment. Maniac Cop was a difficult film to find, especially after its departure from 15 year old VHS tapes that have depreciated with age. It was never released on DVD in large quantities or distributed over a mass audience. I was quite pleased to come across this as a rare find. These old flicks were made by talented directors with a flare for combining elements from various genres to construct cult classics on lower budgets. I still enjoy this more than many of the newer genre films being released today.

    THERES A KILLER POLICE OFFICER ON THE LOOSE IN NEW YORK ! IS HE SIMPLY A VIGILANTE FROM THE NYPD OR A HERO COP FROM THE PAST - WRONGLY ACCUSED AND BACK FOR REVENGE. "MANIAC COP" , MADE DURING THE 1980'S HORROR BANDWAGON AND TAKES YOU ALONG FOR A THRILLING RIDE. A WELL WRITTEN SCRIPT ALONG WITH AN EXCELLENT CAST. THIS FILM BRINGS THE AUDIENCE MANY SCARES BLENDED WITH AN INTERESTING STORYLINE. LOTS OF GOOD KILL SEQUENCES AND PLENTY OF GREAT ACTING (YOU'LL RECOGNIZE THE THE SAME DETECTIVE FROM NIGHT OF THE CREEPS - HE PLAYS SUCH A GOOD COP) ADD THIS HORROR/THRILLER TO YOUR CLOSET COLLECTION OR RENT IT FOR A GOOD SCARE. EITHER WAY, TURN OFF THE LIGHTS AND ENJOY!
