Seller Notes: “Book: Bright blue cloth boards with ivory 1.5" x 7" paste-on title labels; one-side with English ... “Book: Bright blue cloth boards with ivory 1.5" x 7" paste-on title labels; one-side with English titling; other side Japanese calligraphy. Note, the book is designed Japanese-style, to be read from what would be the back of a Western book. Designed as an accordion book (see photo taken from top), printed on papers of varying hues of yellow, beige and green and silky textures. The butterflies are woodblock design in many colors and sizes, dancing across the pages. The only text is the two-page introduction in the photo. All paper and endpapers are clean, no markings, no damaged pages noted. The book itself is like new and the slipcase has taken all the wear. Constructed of heavy off-white stock, it shows light edgewear, corner bumps, and fraying at the tip and tail of the "spine," which also has a small puncture, and is tanned, as is all the slipcase paper.”

A Flight of Butterflies
I bought the very same version of this book for my mother's birthday when it first came into print in the late 'seventies. She LOVES butterflies and this book showcases them in a very modern way even though it is based on artist Kanzaka Sekka's wonderful woodblock prints from a Japanese book published in 1904. Throughout the years my mother moved several times and somewhere along the way her book was lost. When I saw it on EBay I knew I wanted her to have it again. The book itself is a work of art; it comes in a protective sleeve and the pages fold out like a fan. Each section opens into a two-page spread of - what else - butterflies in flight! The illustrations are presented on variously shaded backgrounds and each page's butterflies are unique in size, color and design. Except for a ...
