About this product

Product Information

In John Landis' (THE BLUES BROTHERS, ANIMAL HOUSE) dripping black comedy, two American students (David Naughton and Griffin Dunne) on a European vacation wander into a creepy local pub in Northern England and are quickly thrown out. Stranded and alone in the dark countryside, the pair get lost in their search for warm lodging. Little do they know that they are about to be changed forever by an ancient terror as they walk along the moors on a moonlit night. Only one of the students survives a deadly attack by a supernatural beast--at least he thinks he survived, until the next full moon rolls around. Terrific makeup effects (by Oscar winner Rick Baker), clever editing, and raunchy tongue-in-cheek humor made this suspenseful and thrilling horror effort an instant classic.

    American werewolf in London

  • Dated, But Influential

I remember watching this movie when I was a kid and getting the BeJesus scared out of me. Today, it's not nearly as scary. The werewolf looks kind of fake compared to creatures nowadays. It's a little dated, but it is still a decent movie. Even though the werewolf looks kind of like an overgrown sewer rat, the transformation from man to werewolf is classic. Micheal Jackson pretty much ripped off the transformation in his video 'Thriller'. Nearly identical. Good story though, average to slightly above average acting, and good special effects make this a pretty good horror movie. The last 15 minutes are the best part of the movie. It still gets my heart going a little bit, just not as much as when I was a kid.

  • Great for THRILLER Season!

OK, this is a bit out of my norm, but I am a Michael Jackson fan, so I had to take the plunge. The story from "The Making of Thriller" is that John Landis is the director of both films, and "American Werewolf in London" was an influence on Thriller. SO, if you need an extension of Thriller for the Halloween season, go for it! There is some humor mixed in with a bit of gore, some special effects look a little old fashioned, others are still good. The deteriorating dead friend is pretty funny, Yup, funny! Kind of ends all of a sudden, and we were like, "Hey, Wait!" Overall a pretty good movie, I would recommend it. ESPECIALLY for MJ fans if you haven't seen it!

  • eng./am. w.w. in england

one of the best w.w. movies & the first to be exploited upon on its shape made via john landis & ric baker. the best along /w the orig. lon chaney one, the boy who cried werewolf, silver bullet, the howling & any others? this film has just about ever action bit to it /w some orig. crazy like ideas. it could have used more monsta action in its attack scenes & film felt a lil short but really wasnt. i guess short only due to needin more action in the attack scenes.

  • Good, but the Howling is better overall!

I hadn't seen this movie in a long time and I did enjoy it but for people who are looking for the best werewolf transformation or special effects I would say get the howling the original howling it's from a year after this and it's so much better
