About this product

Product Information

A 3D update of the 1980 coin-op classic, Defender has players guiding a star fighter from a behind-the-ship perspective in an attempt to thwart an alien invasion. Pilots must once again rescue potential abductees from alien vessels to earn points, which can be used for ship upgrades in the areas of engines, shields, and weapons. The battles take place in a campaign format, playable with a friend in cooperative mode, as pilots engage alien threats across planetary surfaces on Venus, Mars, and Earth, as well as in the far reaches of space. <br><br>Six different ships are available to pilot, each offering different characteristics from light and nimble fighters to slow and heavily armed bombers. Techniques such as barrel rolls, loops, and reversals are possible, and familiar weapons such as smart bombs can eradicate multiple threats in one blinding flash. Players navigate the environments with the help of radar denoting enemy fighters in red and friendly units in blue. As a special bonus, the original game of Defender is included as a selectable option.

    An OK Flight Game

    This is the remake of the original Defender on the Atari. It is an overall 3 or 3.5/5 because it has a bit of the sense of the original one but made a lot more futuristic. You can still carry people from the aliens you shot down to, not the ground, but the base you flew from. You pick up guys from all over that planet/area/land and carry up to 3 or 4 guys to base. You still have a lot of space-killing-aliens out there that you can "tag" them but you have to destroy their piece of base also if i'm not mistaken. You have objective markers to help guide you but you still have to get low to see the dudes or aim right to obliterate the alien but still nab that guy. The flight controls can be a bit wonky at times but can be mastered. This ain't top notch flying but it will help you capture a bit ...

    Fun space shooter game for all!

    The kids and I play these games together when I have extra time. However, the games are mostly for their enjoyment! Defender is fun if you like space shooter challenges. You get to select people, crafts and locations! And of course there is upgrades to be won! We collect Playstation games, so of course this was another purchase for that as well! PS2 still rocks at our house and will for years to come!
