“Throughout In Sierra Leone interpersonal, domestic relations of inequality-the everyday resentments, harshness, and ironies that characterize hierarchical relations between Big Men and their entourage, older brothers and their juniors-unfold against the backdrop of History with a capital H. Only someone with Michael Jackson’s unique blend of anthropological and poetic sensibility and long-term engagement with Sierra Leone could write this book.-Mariane Ferme, author of The Underneath of Things: Violence, History, and the Everyday in Sierra Leone, In Sierra Leone succeeds in throwing light on the rebellion. . . . Drawing on his experience before the war and supplementing it with post-war interviews, Jackson helps us understand those who took to violence., "A fascinating document that reflects importantly on widescale violence and war, the nature of narrative, the sensibilities of witnessing, the play of memory, and the predicament of anthropology in places and among peoples that the discipline has studied in calmer times."--George Marcus, author of Ethnography through Thick and Thin, "Throughout In Sierra Leone interpersonal, domestic relations of inequality-the everyday resentments, harshness, and ironies that characterize hierarchical relations between Big Men and their entourage, older brothers and their juniors-unfold against the backdrop of History with a capital H. This is a work of overwhelming honesty that can be read and appreciated on many levels., [A] melancholic, reflective and informed work that will fascinate readers wishing to learn more about West African politics and people., Compelling. . . . Offering arresting details of the life and times of a classic African 'big man' and illuminating the nature of postcolonial politics in Sierra Leone., "succeeds in throwing light on the rebellion. . . . Foreign Affairs "A melancholic, reflective and informed work that will fascinate readers wishing to learn more about West African politics and people." Publishers Weekly "A fascinating document that reflects importantly on widescale violence and war, the nature of narrative, the sensibilities of witnessing, the play of memory, and the predicament of anthropology in places and among peoples that the discipline has studied in calmer times." George Marcus, author of Ethnography through Thick and Thin"Throughout In Sierra Leone interpersonal, domestic relations of inequality - the everyday resentments, harshness, and ironies that characterize hierarchical relations between Big Men and their entourage, older brothers and their juniors - unfold against the backdrop of History with a capital H. Mariane Ferme, author of The Underneath of Things: Violence, History, and the Everyday in Sierra Leone"In Sierra Leone succeeds in throwing light on the rebellion--and the ubiquity of public corruption in parts of African countries--by examing the difficulties [S.B.} Marah faced in reconciling the multiple demands placed upon him . . . thoughtful and at times surprising . . . offer[s] real insights into the problems . . . described."--TLS, Feb 25 2005 "Jackson's book is profound, thought-provoking and moving, and should be read by anyone with an interest in Sierra Leone."--Global Dialogue Vol 6 Number 3-4, Summer/Autumn 2004, "Throughout In Sierra Leone interpersonal, domestic relations of inequality--the everyday resentments, harshness, and ironies that characterize hierarchical relations between Big Men and their entourage, older brothers and their juniors--unfold against the backdrop of History with a capital H. And In Sierra Leone is perhaps ethnography at its best; it is specific but still encourages comparison and contemplation on the human condition..., A powerful reaffirmation of Sierra Leonean social resilience. . . . Jackson's lyrical passages also speak to the complex resilience of the human spirit. . . . He has written a book that transforms a complex and violent world into an inspiringly evocative painting., “A fascinating document that reflects importantly on widescale violence and war, the nature of narrative, the sensibilities of witnessing, the play of memory, and the predicament of anthropology in places and among peoples that the discipline has studied in calmer times.-George Marcus, author of Ethnography through Thick and Thin

Product is 95% alike picture but a little more blurry. Controller play well but had a notice from psn that my joypad wasn't authentic and could by problematic🤷‍♂️ no trouble so far! Shipping was fast but no tracking and worst packaging ever.. like the box came banged up... send a question to seller never had a reply 😅.... Good product overall, excellent price, fast shipping, wrapped only on 4 sides out of 6, no tracking and never reply... 4★ product / 2★ seller ✌️

The book is in perfect condition, brand new, and is exactly as described. This item is difficult to find here, and the seller priced it very reasonably. It shipped from the UK to Canada, and unfortunately took a little longer to arrive than the seller hoped, but it was shipped less than 24 hours after I purchased. When I contacted the seller, they were very responsive and helpful. I would not hesitate to purchase from this seller again. Definitely recommend!
