About this product

Product Information

This fiercely comic tale stands in marked contrast to its genial predecessor, The Pickwick Papers . Set against London's seedy back street slums, Oliver Twist is the saga of a workhouse orphan captured and thrust into a thieves' den, where some of Dickens's most depraved villains preside: the incorrigible Artful Dodger, the murderous bully Sikes, and the terrible Fagin, that treacherous ringleader whose grinning knavery threatens to send them all to the "ghostly gallows." Yet at the heart of this drama is the orphan Oliver, whose unsullied goodness leads him at last to salvation. In 1838 the publication of Oliver Twist firmly established the literary eminence of young Dickens. It was, according to Edgar Johnson, "a clarion peal announcing to the world that in Charles Dickens the rejected and forgotten and misused of the world had a champion."

Shipping was fast but no tracking and worst packaging ever.. like the box came banged up... send a question to seller never had a reply 😅.... Good product overall, excellent price, fast shipping, wrapped only on 4 sides out of 6, no tracking and never reply... 4★ product / 2★ seller ✌️

The book is in perfect condition, brand new, and is exactly as described. This item is difficult to find here, and the seller priced it very reasonably. It shipped from the UK to Canada, and unfortunately took a little longer to arrive than the seller hoped, but it was shipped less than 24 hours after I purchased. When I contacted the seller, they were very responsive and helpful. I would not hesitate to purchase from this seller again. Definitely recommend!

  • Oliver Twist

This was my first occasion to read the Charles Dickins witting of the prose of the 16-17 Th centry and had some difficulty following it (Classic that it may be) however, once I got into the writing with some depth;I became so enthralled in the story line hat I could not put the book down. Although nthe early life and adventures of Oliver were so sad and blood thirsty, it was heart warming to see the light at the end of the tunnel and foresee a possible good and happy livelyhood and future advantage.I felt sorrow, as well as tears of joy and happiness at the realization of his just deserts. I am purchasing simular books for future reading.
