About this product

Product Information

Sophisticated, but emotionally crippled Roslyn (Marilyn Monroe, giving what many believe to be her strongest performance) has come to Nevada to gain a quick and easy divorce. When her landlady introduces her to aging, broken cowboy Gay Langland (Clark Gable), she finally finds herself with a worthy partner. Meanwhile, Gay and his fellow horsemen Guido and Perce (Eli Wallach and Montgomery Clift) scheme to capture a herd of wild horses. Though megawatt star power and a brilliant script by Arthur Miller failed to turn THE MISFITS into box office success (probably due a legendarily troubled shoot), time and critical reputation treated it very kindly. It was the final film for icons Gable and Monroe.

    Great movie

To see these Hollywood icons in a stirring epic that would be the last great picture of their combined careers is monumental. There could never be a movie made like this ever again. Three legends together is amazing. Are any of todays actors ever going to be considered legends?

  • The Misfits

A classic, five-star film. The last completed film by both Clark Gable and Marilyn Monroe. A poignant film that explores all the challenges of the passing of a way of life, with compelling performances by its larger-than-life stars. Monroe's life was a mess and Gable was to have a massive fatal heart attack a few weeks after filming was finished. Third star Montgomery Cliff was also on a downward spiral to a tragic end. These three stars each used their own pathos to bring to the film the majesty and tragedy of fatally flawed but larger-than-life talent. It was filmed in Northern Nevada, including many sites in and around Dayton---my home. Most of the local sites are still here---the Odeon Hall, the Old Corner Bar, and what is now called "Misfit Flat" near Stagecoach, where the climatic ...

  • Misfits is an obvious summation of the script and the basic issue that drives the story .

Difficult but good movie. Difficult because the issues involved are hard to deal with, given the needs of the characters . There's a truth to the movie script that's undeniable. The actors are superb. Maryin Monroe in particular. The truth is, there is, that in human life there are few wonderfully happy resolutions, though there are resolutions that are okay and work for the characters pictured. The script is superb.

  • Marilyn was wonderful Gable was competent, movie was depressing.

Actually, although it was GOOD to see Marilyn getting a chance to really Act (she's very good), the story was a little too depressing and I couldn't finish the movie. How I wish she could have lived to show us what she could do!

  • Classic & Pure Class!

I first saw this movie on tv in b&w in 1958. I fell in love with the Arthur Miller screenplay, and all three actors - especially Marilyn Monroe. It’s a rare, beautifully realized gem of classic moviemaking. Indulge yourself.
