Fun Game, but Extremely Let Down by the Graphics
If you are reading this review, I assume you have already read the critics reviews and are trying to see what real people are saying. Being an amateur photographer and nature lover, I can't help but to love this game. But, as you undoubtedly already know, the graphics are...um...cruddy. I went into this game thinking that a photography game from National Geographic must be visually stunning. In reality, it plays like a demo that serves as nothing more than product placement. The animals really do "move like robots," a statement I blew off believing it was authored by a gamer that does not have the capacity to enjoy a game like this. I lost my argument when elephants started drinking while standing on dry ground and animals continued to walk when, in fact, they were ... The animals really do "move like robots," a statement I blew off believing it was authored by a gamer that does not have the capacity to enjoy a game like this. I lost my argument when elephants started drinking while standing on dry ground and animals continued to walk when, in fact, they were stuck against a tree. It's disappointing when thousands of flamingos raise and lower their heads at the very same time, as well. The problems are not limited to the animals. The in-game GPS system is terrible, even worse than real life GPS. The GPS is not interactive, save for a zoom feature which is the only way to see labels. This makes it especially difficult to find base camp, landmarks, and entrances to other areas of the park. When you get ready to play the game, start it then go get make dinner. It takes a very long time to load. At some point you will need to save. This will give you about two minutes to go back to the kitchen for seconds. No kidding, it has taken two minutes for the game to save. With all that said, the game is actually fun to play. The cameras are all real world cameras and, with the exception of manual focus, operate just like the real thing. The controller is set up in a fashion that makes you feel like you have the camera in your hand. If you rotate the controller sideways, the camera turns sideways. In addition, pushing the "shutter" button halfway activates the auto focus; push it all the way and the shutter releases. Very cool. Each camera has all of its real world functions. The Sony a350 (camera 2) has four modes: automatic, aperture priority, shutter priority, and manual (with auto focus). If there is a manual focus, I have not figured it out. The photos will turn out exactly as they would in real life in each mode, ie., depending on the settings you create, the photos will appear under exposed, over exposed, blurry, etc... The a350 in the game even came with the same 18-70mm lens that came with the cameras when purchased at retail. I have upgraded lenses twice; 24-150mm, then an 18-200mm lens. I have heard that much better equipment comes later in the game. I can't wait! The missions so far have been fun and not too difficult. The most difficult part is dealing with the animals. Robotic as they are, they react to the photographer and will eat you. The African Buffalo will NOT give you the opportunity to run. Good luck with your close up of him. The other animals give warning and you have a few seconds to de-escalate the situation. Although, I have been run down by an elephant. Try not to get pummeled by the wildlife, you loose all the photos you had taken up to that point. I wish I had more space to write the review for this game. Despite its problems (which are too numerous to include here) it is very easy for an outdoor enthusiast and lover of photography to get caught up in. I actually bought a PS3 based on this game...and I don't regret it.

I read the reviews and was pretty skeptical about the game. Everyone kept saying that it was pretty boring and that you couldn't even drive your own jeep and that the animals were unrealistic and the challenges too hard. Well sorry to the people that think that but they must not have gotten very far. At first it is on the boring side. You wake up, get an assignment, then ride in the back of a jeep to your destination and can sometimes stop. But after your first big game challenge you drive yourself around and get out whenever you like. The animals are choppy from a distance but the quality it better once you get closer to them and they behave like they would naturally. Some run away while most will try to plow you down. poor game menu,absence of control settings,no voices,just subtitles,stupid dialogue,but playing the game is really good.just simply "hunting" the animals for best picture is great idea,sometimes i just watching them,having fun with my girl.u can learn a lot from encyklopida mode,watch real pictures or just relax in almost real afrika world.also this version support trophies,not like asian version called -hakuna matata.such a good game in this "fps killing age".highly recommended to all girls,families and boys who likes nature with animals.peace 2 allpoor game menu,absence of control settings,no voices,just subtitles,stupid dialogue,but playing the game is really good.just simply "hunting" the animals for best picture is great idea,sometimes i just watching them,having fun with my girl.u can learn a lot from encyklopida mode,watch real pictures or just relax in almost real afrika world.also this version support trophies,not like asian version called -hakuna matata.such a good game in this "fps killing age".highly recommended to all girls,families and boys who likes nature with animals.peace 2 all

The original idea of computer gaming was to give anyone who wanted an experience they could never have in real life the chance to do it in a game ..risk free with no dire consequences if you failed a task !!..."AFRIKA" is one such experience and one denied to many in the european part of "SONY'S" worldwide market.For whatever reason this game was not considered for release in europe ...but the fact that a PS3 device will play any PS3 gamedisc from anywhere in the world means you can import this ecology adventure game and enjoy the thrill of tracking and photographing africa's big game animals from the comfort of your favourite armchair .In the american version shown here you'll earn trophies as you go on missions( the japanese version will not add extra rewards above payment for ...
