saw this on tv for 1st time last night . I laughed, I cried. I am 62 and this is the best movie I have ever seen. really touched a cord-reminded me of my dad. wonderful journey. if you liked forrest gump, you will LOVE LOVE LOVE this film. I am an RN and was telling all my friends about it-said they never heard of it-neither did I before last night. what a gift. One of the best.
I have gifted the movie "Secondhand Lions" when I wanted to applaud someone's individualism and creativity, and I still think that is one of the best family movies ever made. Of course it has Robert Duval in it, so it automatically has his perfected talent of conveying truth that takes it over the top. But I digress, because this review is for "Big Fish" which stars the equally great actor Albert Finney. I also use this as a gift fof its down-to-earth fantasy and love of life message to embrace all possibilities. Jessica Lange, with her soft face and delicate mannerisms, was born to play the role of the beautiful and loving wife, with all the grace of balancing reality with a pure open-mindedness that accepts both what is and what may be. Also a family film, this movie will leave you ... Big Fish (2003). We loved Edward Scissorhands (1990) and we hated Planet of the Apes (2001). And maybe we were lukewarm about everything in between. But Burton made a resilient comeback with a fish story bigger than the ones my grandfather used to tell. Marked by the unquestionable stamp of Burton’s artistic direction, this film tells the life story of Edward Bloom (Albert Finney), through his son William's (Billy Crudup) eyes, and through Edward's own memories. William has lived his entire life resenting his father's particular brand of tall tale, and when he brings his wife home for the first time, at the eve of his father's death, she relishes in hearing them all. I can understand why William doesn't believe his father. His stories are seemingly impossible – if only for his cast of friends and acquaintances – a giant, a circus ringmaster who is part werewolf, a town full of people who do not wear shoes, and a set of sexy conjoined twins are only a few of the people about which he weaves his narrative. But what happens when Will, rifling through his father's things in the garage, finds the deed to a house in the town he was sure never existed? Burton's best work earns its heartaches with honesty and integrity. This is not a film full of cheap gut-wrenches or low-brow situation dramatics. This is an impressionistic masterpiece about family and love and time and distance. Each time I watch it, I think of my grandfather, who said, "Now that's a good show." And it is.

Story telling at it's high point.
The movie was great light entertainment. A couple hours of fantasy and clean tall tales. Family entertainment is rare these days without explosions and gunfire.

This is one of those movies that while watching it you find yourself saying "If this doesn't go anywhere soon, I'm going to turn it off." throughout the whole movie though you never turn it off. You find yourself sticking with it to the end only to find the ending to be a very nice surprise which makes the whole movie come together & worth the time sticking with it through to the end.
