I was looking forward to obtaining this DVD. One of my reasons was because this movie is about Jack Roosevelt Robinson who became the first African American to play in Major League Baseball (MLB). The second reason was because the role of Mr. Robinson was played by that famous African American actor, Chadwick Boseman, who recently transcended. The sound and quality of the picure was great. It excellently depicts a true story concerning an era in America's history about the ability of one man to persevere against all odds. I highly recommend this film to all who are interested in viewing a film based on a true story and for those who lived during the era.

  • Excellent movie!!! 5 Stars!!!

We showed this movie to our junior high students as part of a cross-curricular Civil Rights unit. The students were riveted. The movie is destined to be a classic, with excellent acting and a powerful message. I have watched it many times, and have given several of the DVDs as gifts. My favorite quote was when Jackie asked Branch if he wanted a player who didn't have the guts to fight back, and Branch Rickey answered, "No, Jackie, I want a player who has the guts NOT to fight back." And despite all that he had to endure, Jackie fulfilled that promise and opened up many doors for those who would follow. I cannot say enough good things about this movie!

  • Excellent video containing great acting and a great story of the battle against racism in major league baseball

An accurate portrayal of courage and determination to right the wrong of racism that was perpetuated and supported by Major League baseball long after the elimination of slavery in America. Chadwick Bozeman is excellent in depicting the the character of the main character, Jackie Robinson from his time as a minor league baseball player until his breakthrough of the color barrier in major league baseball at that time.

  • Great movie! Very eye opening, and a great feel good movie.

This movie should be required viewing for every school age child in the country. The incredible hardships that Jackie Robinson endured over his career and how he refused to allow the racist people of that era to get the best of him is truly motivating for all people of all colors. Boseman and Ford were spot on in this movie and should have received grammies. I am white and I'm still amazed and disgusted at how my people treated african americans then and even now. Sorry I'll get off my soap box, great movie even if you're not a baseball fan.

  • I enjoyed the movie.

As an avid baseball fan for many years, much of the Jackie Robinson story is familiar to me. However, there are good performances here. Harrison Ford is pretty believable as Branch Rickey who was the driving force in bringing the first black player to the Major Leagues. The movie wisely limits its scope to Robinson's entry into the Majors and the trials he faced in his first season. There are some minor discrepancies. Robinson's first game was against the Braves, but in Boston, not in Brooklyn. For those who know the tale, this movie is pretty compelling. "Ask every person if he's heard the story, and tell it loud and clear if he has not," (Camelot) definitely applies here.
