FOX Television's American Idol makes its console debut courtesy of publisher Codemasters, who secured the rights to the talent show in April 2003. To re-create the challenge of performing a song in front of three judges, the game uses a rhythm meter not unlike those found in traditional dancing games, such as Konami's Dance Dance Revolution series. After creating their own potential superstar, players must learn to dance and sing in tune by tapping the correct sequence of buttons as depicted on the screen.<br><br>Each mistake or missed button press results in an off-key performance, with the character's voice cracking or wavering, and will be judged accordingly by 3D representations of Simon Cowell, Randy Jackson, and Paula Abdul. Two players can compete against one another with a choice of 40 Top Ten hits from international music charts. The American Idol set has also been re-created, along with interactive crowds who will cheer or boo according to how well players perform. Can you weather the sardonic comments of judge Simon Cowell to become the next pop superstar?

Overall this is a fun game to play. It's a little hard to use at first, but once you figure it out it's not that bad. Once you master how to hit the buttons right it's easy, but some combinations are still hard. There are times when you have to hit multiple buttons at the same time, I can never get it to work right. So I just stay away from songs with that in them. You can also change your characters outfits after each level, but you're very limited on what you can choose. It should have a lot more selections. So all in all, it's worth a try.Overall this is a fun game to play. It's a little hard to use at first, but once you figure it out it's not that bad. I bought this game for my gf, thinking that it would be a karaoke type of game. But it's not. American Idol is a rhythm game which asks you to press the square, triangle, circle and cross in sync with the music. The game is very similar to gitaroo man, and to a extend, also with ddr, only with buttons. on the bright side, the range of music is actually quite good, and it's quite funny to listen to your player go tone deaf when you don't press the right button at the right time. overall, if you like american idol, you might enjoy this game. the price is quite good on ebay too.I bought this game for my gf, thinking that it would be a karaoke type of game. Fun game. Got it for the grandkids. It's easy for them to play and they like changing the outfits, make-up, and hairstyles on the characters. This version does not use the floor mat accessory. Everything is done with the hand control.

I bought this as a gift for wife. She loves to sing karaoke and this is a very fun and innovated way to challenge ones own ability. The game play is good and very similar to the game Rock Band for vocal piece. This game has many songs to choose from. If you are into singing and have no desire to play any of the analog interments, this would be a good investment. One disappointing aspect of the game is that Paula Abdul is not featured. She has been replaced with another woman. Guess we will leave it to Randy and Simon!I bought this as a gift for wife.
