About this product

Product Information

" A] crackling nautical history series...electric."-- Wall Street Journal American hero Commander Bliven Putnam returns to the sea to meet the deadliest threat to the United States since the Revolution. At the opening of the War of 1812, the British control the most powerful navy on earth, and Americans are again victims of piracy. Bliven Putnam, late of the Barbary War, is dispatched to Charleston to outfit and take command of a new twenty-gun brig, the USS Tempest . Prowling the South Atlantic in the Tempest , Bliven takes prizes and disrupts British merchant shipping, until he is overhauled, overmatched, and disastrously defeated by the frigate HMS Java . Taken aboard, he finds he recognizes two familiar faces from Naples: the Java 's captain, Lord Arthur Kington, and his old friend, Sam Bandy, who has been pressed into British Service. As Bliven and Sam plan to foment mutiny among the captive crewmen, they cannot possibly know that another American ship looms over the horizon or that one of the most famous battles of the War of 1812 is about to begin. With exquisite detail and guns-blazing action, A Darker Sea illuminates an unforgettable period in American history.

Reviews
"Haley is an erudite historian who can craft fiction so real that you're ready to pull the grapeshot-packed 18-pounder's lanyard... Another real-enough-to-be-true, rollicking tale from the days of sail and sword." -- Kirkus Reviews "Haley's enthralling blend of well-drawn characters, nautical combat, and period detail will appeal to both Patrick O'Brian and American history enthusiasts." -- Booklist "[O]ne discovers many little-known facts in this exciting and informative book. ...Strongly recommended." -- Historical Novels Review "The history is thoroughly researched, the fiction inventive, the style at once easygoing and rapid....This is a marvelous and richly enjoyable novel, and the intended series to follow promises to do for the American Navy and the Marines what C.S. Forester and Patrick O'Brian did for the Royal Navy....More, please." - Wall Street Journal on The Shores of Tripoli

Product is 95% alike picture but a little more blurry. Controller play well but had a notice from psn that my joypad wasn't authentic and could by problematic🤷‍♂️ no trouble so far! Shipping was fast but no tracking and worst packaging ever.. like the box came banged up... send a question to seller never had a reply 😅.... Good product overall, excellent price, fast shipping, wrapped only on 4 sides out of 6, no tracking and never reply... 4★ product / 2★ seller ✌️

The book is in perfect condition, brand new, and is exactly as described. This item is difficult to find here, and the seller priced it very reasonably. It shipped from the UK to Canada, and unfortunately took a little longer to arrive than the seller hoped, but it was shipped less than 24 hours after I purchased. When I contacted the seller, they were very responsive and helpful. I would not hesitate to purchase from this seller again. Definitely recommend!
