About this product

Product Information

From the Pulitzer Prize-winning author of A Thousand Acres --a luminous novella and short stories that explore the vicissitudes of love, friendship, and marriage. * "A glorious achievement..... Infinitely satisfying..... A triumph." -- The New York Times Book Review In "The Pleasure of Her Company," a lonely, single woman befriends the married couple next door, hoping to learn the secret of their happiness. In "Long Distance," a man finds himself relieved of the obligation to continue an affair that is no longer compelling to him, only to be waylaid by the guilt he feels at his easy escape. And in the incandescently wise and moving title novella, a dentist, aware that his wife has fallen in love with someone else, must comfort her when she is spurned, while maintaining the secret of his own complicated sorrow. Beautifully written, with a wry intelligence and a lively comic touch, The Age of Grief captures moments of great intimacy with grace, clarity, and indelible emotional power.

Product is 95% alike picture but a little more blurry. Controller play well but had a notice from psn that my joypad wasn't authentic and could by problematic🤷‍♂️ no trouble so far! Shipping was fast but no tracking and worst packaging ever.. like the box came banged up... send a question to seller never had a reply 😅.... Good product overall, excellent price, fast shipping, wrapped only on 4 sides out of 6, no tracking and never reply... 4★ product / 2★ seller ✌️

The book is in perfect condition, brand new, and is exactly as described. This item is difficult to find here, and the seller priced it very reasonably. It shipped from the UK to Canada, and unfortunately took a little longer to arrive than the seller hoped, but it was shipped less than 24 hours after I purchased. When I contacted the seller, they were very responsive and helpful. I would not hesitate to purchase from this seller again. Definitely recommend!

  • The Age of Grief by Jane Smiley

I absolutely love this book. It is one of my favorite collections of contemporary short stories and what amounts to a novella by the same name(The Age of Grief) which was made into a superb independent film called "The Secret Lives of Dentists" that follows Smiley's work faithfully. Seeing the film motivated me to hunt down Smiley's book. What is wonderful about Jane Smiley is that while she is a woman writer her books are books are so deeply felt and her subject matter: marriage, divorce, friendship, child raising, and mid-life angst is so universal that it deserves to find an audience with men who love fine literature as well as women. I just sent my brother a copy. Her writing is accessible without making any apologies for making the reader reach a little. The touraine she covers will ...
