UFC 45 & 46 - The Gruesome Twosome
UFC 45/46 Double Feature I love that the UFC puts two events together at a discounted price, it helps me build my UFC DVD collection and save a little money while doing it. UFC 45 UFC 45 has some great fights, and one disappointing fight stoppage. It also features Ken Shamrock and Royce Gracie being inducted into the UFC Hall of Fame. The fight of the night goes to Matt Hughes vs Frank Trigg. The undercard features some really exciting fights as well. The fight card is as follows: WW Title Main Event Matt Hughes vs. Frank Trigg (Fight of the Night) Undercard Tank Abbott vs. Wesley "Cabbage" Correira (Disappointing Fight Stoppage) Phil Baroni vs. Evan Tanner (Will Tanner continue to Dominate at MW or will the NY Badass Knock Him Out?) Ricco Rodriguez vs. Pedro "The Rock" ... UFC 46: Super Natural After their epic battle, "The Phenom" Vitor Belfort gets his rematch against Randy "the Natural" Couture. Their first fight was a war, and after 6 years, Vitor finally gets a chance to redeem himself. I was extremely pumped for this fight, and even though I don't reveal outcomes of fights in my reviews I have to let you know that this fight ends early due to a freak accident. The undercard makes up for the disappointing main event. The fight card is as follows: LHW Main Event Randy Couture vs. Vitor Belfort (Grrrrr... this fight still haunts me to this day) WW Title Co-Main Event Matt Hughes vs. B.J. Penn (BJ Penn Moved up from LW to fight for the title, will he succeed?) Frank Mir vs. Wes Sims (Mir is looking to avenge the illegal throat stomping in their first fight) Jorge Rivera vs. Lee Murray (Murray calls out Tito Ortiz after the fight) Carlos Newton vs. Renato Verissimo (Former WW champion facing Up and Coming Verissimo) Karo Parisyan vs. Georges St. Pierre (GSP IS the NEXT BIG THING at 170) Hermes Franca vs. Josh Thomson (Will Franca keep his 8 fight win streak alive?) Matt Serra vs. Gerald Strebendt Final Verdict: 4/5 Rent or Buy: Buy... Even though the Main event was a bust, a Card that features Hughes, Penn, Mir, Parisyan, and St. Pierre cannot be overlooked because of one bad fight. I would've given this DVD a 5/5 if the main event would've lived up to the hype, but the undercard is what's really impressive. Overall Final Verdict of UFC 45/46 Double Bill: 4/5 If you're a fan of MMA this DVD set belongs in your collection. 2 great UFC events featuring many of the big names of today. the cards were just ok
the fights on the card were just ok. there were some really boring ones that ended in a judges decision. but, there were some good ones like Frank Mir against Wes Sims. Mir was out for blood in this rematch because he got stomped to the head by Sims in the last fight. Matt Hughes vs Frank Trigg was a good fight. Hughes did a great move to end the fight. Hughes VS Penn was pretty good. Oh, and UFC 45 was the first UFC fight for GEORGE ST. PIERRE!!!!!!!! Gotta love GSP. UFC also showcased another future champion in Matt Serra.
