Solid, quiet, reliable pump; made in the US and worth the higher price
Liberty pumps are well known for being reliable; when you rely on a pump to ensure that your home stays dry during a big storm, you don't want to save $100 on a lesser pump. This particular model has a unique one-piece cast iron design with a cap and just one seal at the top - one less seal to fail then most competing pumps. I also love the magnetic float switch, because it is more compact than the usual alternative switches and again no seal is needed. I previously had a decent pump but had to replace the switch when it failed after a couple of years, and recently the replacement switch also failed. You can definitely tell the difference between the new 1/2 hp pump and the older 3/4 hp pump it replaced; the newer pump takes a little longer to empty the large basin, but it is quiet, ... If your piping has to push the water way up high, makes a bunch of turns, and then has to push the water 30+ feet out into the yard, you may want more than 1/2 hp, but for most residential purposes using a larger pump is not recommended. Be sure to install according to the recommendations; use a quality check valve to avoid gallons and gallons of water returning to the basin after the pump stops, drill a 1/8" hole just above the outlet as an anti-airlock measure, and never reduce the size of the exit piping (use 1 1/2" or larger).
