expression means off/on
So this is more of an on and off pedal although there is a range of expression, i guess if you crank your amp you could get a range but mostly it falls off quickly as you press it. It works in both directions which is nice. I use this for acoustic pickups so I don't need to install a volume knob on my person or on the guitar.

Finally found what I needed....
I have tried numerous volume pedals for use with my Yamaha keyboard. None seemed to work properly. Lots of buzzing and distortion, etc. Also having to use battery or power adapter was alway a pain and created buzzes too. This pedal needs no power of any sort .I just plug my keyboard into it and then an output wire to my amp. AWESOME!
