    Good unit with tons of features, User inerface not great

    The unit is felexible, powerful and works quite well. It has tons of features and if you are patient you can explore and review all the functions. User inerface is not very intuitive. For instance, I want to know how much recording time I have left. There is easy way to get that simple information. Yes! If you mess around, eventually you'll stumble on it. It has a tough time dealing with bad DVDs and can get into a never ending loop and will not be able to eject till you remove the power altogether and reconnect. It does its main functions well and has HDMI, Front and back inputs and is a a small unit. The display could be brighter.

    Difficult to setup

    Since my used DVD recorder/player came with no owner's manual, I had to find one on the Internet for this particular model. The manual was extremely hard to follow in setting up and programming the recorder/player. The quality of the playback pictures are not as sharp as on previous DVD recorder/players that I've had. On a scale of 1 to 10 (10 being the highest), I'd rate this particular model as being a 5 or 6.

    Panasonic DVD recorder

    Product works well, but takes quite a while to start up. Also when recording from an external device that only has the yellow video and red/white stereo RCA connectors. and outputting via the HDMI cable, you get a popup stating that the because the signal is in SD, not HD, you should change the display setting. This gets annoying.

    Panasonic DMR-EZ28K DVD recorder

    This unit replaced an older Panasonic DMR-ES20K which was starting to have some issues. That unit had only an analogue NTSC tuner. I was looking for a recorder with a digital ATSC tuner which can record the digital programs passed through unblocked by the cable company. In this respect, the DMR-EZ28 performed flawlessly, making very high quality recordings of HD programs (converted to standard def.). The audio recording quality is much improved over the DMR-ES20. Now for the cons: When setting up the channels (for cable use)), it finds everything, including blank sub-carrier digital cable channels that the company remaps. I have found no way to delete these. Second on some analogue cable channels, there is a slight herringbone pattern, not present on the DMR-ES20. There is no way to fine ...

    We use the unit daily to record and like it.

    I bought this Panasonic DMR-EZ28K DVD Recorder from BestBuyOutlet on ebay for a total about $125 ($200 more + tax at retailer stores) and have used it for a few weeks. There was no any major problems found yet so far. It receives and delivers good quality video and audio from both analog and digital channels via our regular cable line and expanded the receivability. It also records smoothly the very good audio and video too. The set-up procedure is easy, even detects the date/time automatically for us. The tuning between the digital channels was slow and sensitive to lock on. But because this is the first time I use a digital tuner, I am not sure this is the problem of the recorder or not. Sometimes the screen flashes when we setup the recorder.
