    The artistic photographer of San Francisco's women

    Albert Arthur Allen, was another unsung genius of early photography. In a time when many photographers were jailed on pornography charges. Indeed Allen himself was prosecuted [or persecuted] for taking pictures that by todays "higher" standards would seem fairly tame. Once when authorities complained about pubic hair on a model, he asked if it should be removed, they apparently said 'YES', the model shaved, and a much nuder picture resulted. This is a very good book for those who think that a woman is at her best nude. Congratulations to Daile Kaplan for bringing this book to print. Another facit of Allen's portraiture was his penchant for useing normal, everyday women as his models.
