Excellent device that works perfectly even with 30+ different HDMI connections
First, I'm going to explain my set-up, and how I am using this device. My set up includes: - Streaming PC - Gaming PC - Elgato HD 60 - Analog Audio Splitter - 1x HDMI audio Extractor - 1x HDMI Audio Inserter (Blackbird 4k, this item) - 1x Audio Mixer - 2x HDMI Switch - 2x HDMI Splitters - Nintendo Switch, PS4, PS3, Gamecube, NES Classic, N64 So to explain briefly, I have an HDMI switch with ALL my gaming consoles attached, minus my gaming PC. This switch goes to another HDMI switch where my gaming PC is also hooked up, both as inputs. The output goes to an HDMI splitter. This splitter sends one output to the Elgato. The other output goes to an HDMI audio extractor, where the audio is split and sent to the mixer, and then the HDMI out is sent to the TV. This is to also avoid any issues ... This switch goes to another HDMI switch where my gaming PC is also hooked up, both as inputs. The output goes to an HDMI splitter. This splitter sends one output to the Elgato. The other output goes to an HDMI audio extractor, where the audio is split and sent to the mixer, and then the HDMI out is sent to the TV. This is to also avoid any issues with changing Elgato color setting etcs, as this output won't be affected by whatever is done to the other. Now as for the gaming PC, my main issue was that OBS hates analog audio when connected to an Elgato directly, and will rarely identify it. I needed a way to add the analog audio from my Gaming PC to the HDMI stream and combine the output from my GTX 1060. So I connected my GTX 1060 output to the Blackbird 4k HDMI inserter, and connected my speaker port output with a splitter and an analog 3.5mm male to male cable (so I can still have my speakers) to the analog on the blackbird. I then sent this new HDMI output WITH audio to a second HDMI splitter. One output went to the HDMI switch input (input 1) next to the input with all my consoles (input 2), and the other HDMI splitter output went to the TV on another HDMI source. Now I can switch among ANY console I own, as well as my Gaming PC with the push of a button on my second HDMI switch. The reason I put my second PC separately and on another source is so I can use my Gaming PC when I game on the same TV with another console by just switching the source channel on the TV. So if I have my PS4 on HDMI channel 1 while streaming live on twitch, I can switch to HDMI channel 3 to access my gaming pc for browsing or whatever, and it won't affect the elgato/obs/twitch stream. The Blackbird 4K did exactly what I wanted, and sent the analog audio from my speakers through HDMI, and even through the HDMI splitter. When I tested, the audio came out through my TV's speakers as it should, could be heard in my headset via the audio mixer (HDMI audio extractor) AND the audio was perfectly in sync and audible in OBS. I am very pleased with this device. If I had to list a con, its that it doesn't play too nice with HDMI splitters if the splitter gets turned on FIRST. So the Blackbird needs to be ON before the HDMI splitter is. If you don't do this, your PC settings will revert back to 480p when you turn it on, and 1080p won't even be available in display settings (only up to 720p for whatever reason). You HAVE to unplug/replug the splitter if this happens, and ideally before it messes with your display settings, or you'll have to restart your PC and change the display settings to fix it, period.
