About this product

Product Information

The original Batman serial from the early 1940s follows the development ofCaped Crusader during his early days, as he fights to find his place in society. This extends to both his capacity as billionaire corporate head in charge of his father's company, as well as the vigilante savior to Gotham City. Bruce Wayne (Lewis Wilson) and his trusty sidekick Robin (Douglas Croft) set out to do battle against the nefarious plots of Dr. Tito Daka (J. Carrol Naish), but Daka's reach is greater than the pair of crime fighters imagined. His radium-powered death ray can demolish anything in its path, and he has an army of electronic zombies to carry out his bidding. Dr. Daka's position as a former Japanese wartime espionage agent gave rise to what some call racism in these shows, but these plot conceits are reflective of the cultural fears of the time.

    Fascinating vintage superhero tale.

I ordered this serial, which I believe was the first film treatment of a comic book character, because it was one I remembered from my youth. Every Saturday, I NEEDED to get to the Saturday matinee so I wouldn't miss how Batman escaped the latest cliffhanger. Despite the 75 years that have elapsed since this was made, it is still highly entertaining. It is also a time capsule of WW2 era anti-Japanese feeling, which means it is politically incorrect but an unfiltered contemporary primary source on American war propaganda. I think you might enjoy it regardless of your age, sex, or ethnicity.

  • Very entertaining

Fun to watch I enjoyed it!! Not as Advanced has the 60s Batman but still entertaining. No walking up the walls with guests coming out of the window like the 60's Batman. But still Very entertaining in the least.
