    Had to return item. Seller is responsive and fair. These are not refurbished, but new aftermarket. The immobilizer chip is programmable, but the keyless entry was not. A genuine subaru keyless fob will fit in this case (the fobs are slightly different dimensions), so it can be made to work, but a genuine subaru case back with logo cannot be used. It won't snap together with a real subaru fob inside.

    Subaru Key Transponder

    When you buy the assembly with a cut key you have to transfer the remote parts and the chip to a new case/blade assembly. The hard part is getting the chip out of the original case. It's glued in and you need some solvent and in my case had to destroy the old case to get the chip out. It was worth it as I had the new blade cut by a locksmith but had to have the dealer program the chip. The locksmith did not have the software for my 2013 Impreza.

    Not Compatible with 2018 Outback

    While it was easy to get this in the mail, and it came quick, the Subaru dealer has to program the key to match the car (only four devices are enabled at any one time). These key fobs will open the car door and turn the ignition, but without the dealer's programming, the car will not start. Unfortunately, none of the fob buttons will work and the alarm will sound until the engine starts. So, it was a good financial value, but I cannot use any of the fob buttons and the alarm activates every time I use them. I guess this makes for a good backup key, but not good for everyday use. Now plan B.

    Subaru Forester Remote Key

    While I was originally sent the wrong key, the seller quickly resolved this and sent me the correct key at no cost to myself. This appears to be the exact same model as the remote key I received when I bought my 2014 Forester. I will now need to get the key blade copied at a locksmith from my one other key and then go to a special locksmith or a Subaru dealer to have them program the internal radio transmitter so it will work with my card. In the end that will cost more than I think it should, but far less than the $300+ that a Subaru dealer charges for the entire process. Please be careful to order the exact match to your current key and understand that there are steps involved after buying just the key to make it work with your vehicle.

    Great 2nd key

    Good quality and great price. But you cannot program the key itself, it requires a qualified l9ck Smith to program and cut. That cost me $90, so take good care of your keys.
