    Overpriced compared to other very similar options

    I bought the Pentium M 765 as the best CPU upgrade I could get for my Thinkpad T42. It's indeed better than the 735 @ 1.7 GHz I had before, but both CPU's struggle to power Windows 7 and Chrome in even simple tasks. That's nothing against the CPU, mind you, I knew it wouldn't be much of a boost when I bought it. The biggest problem with the 765 is the price; I paid $38 for it. That doesn't sound like too big of a deal, but when the second most powerful processor, the 2.0 GHz Pentium M 755, is $8, I feel stupid for spending so much on this rare-ish processor. If you find yourself wanting to upgrade a 400 MHz FSB Pentium M platform, do yourself a favor and get the 755 over this.

    Fastest possible

    The other post here is somewhat correct. The only issue is, having used and owning both processors, there is a hair more speed in this one. There is no doubt about it. The question I guess is this: You are tearing your laptop apart, it is old, you are keeping it for a specific reason (XP or Lubuntu on an old printer or software, for example). What is your time worth? Personally, if I'm going through all the hassle to upgrade such an old laptop, I'm going to get whatever I can out of it. This is it. The top. If you are limited by a 400MHz FSB and want whatever you can get out of your system, then get it and max out your RAM to 2GB. If you think you are going to run Windows 7 and browse with Chrome smoothly, it is just not going to happen. This processor + Lubuntu + Chromium ...

    Highest upgrade you can get!

    So I got the 2.1 to replace the 1.4ghz that I had in my Dell latitude D600 and even though some might say its not worth the small gain, its still a noticeable gain, especially when streaming video. Response time is quicker too. If you dont have the Dothan CPU, Im pretty sure your hitting 100% CPU usage almost all the time.
