Spend the money, do it right.
Used to repair a cylinder head on a vintage Honda MC. I was able to perform the work without removing the head, which also requires removing the engine from the frame. A word of caution, watch the insert depth to make sure the new insert does not interfere with piston travel. The kit is pricey, but so much better than a Heli-coil.
