Seiko GP501W clock English Instructions
Here is my best attempt at documenting how to use the Seiko GP501W clock in English: There are several controls on the rear of the Seiko GP501W clock. I am numbering the controls as the Japanese instructions label them, but I am moving from top to bottom, left to right. 1. An approximately 1.5 inch or 40 mm long rectangular backlight button will illuminate the display for 5 seconds when the button is briefly pressed. This button also acts as a 5 minute snooze button for the alarm. 3. A sliding switch with English labels will turn the alarm ON or OFF. 2. The first set of rectangular + and - buttons are for setting the alarm time. 4. A rectangular button that beeps when you press it. If you keep the button pressed, then the frequency of the beeps increases as though the alarm were ... Bing interprets the image of the label for this button as, "Super Mario Brothers", which I believe is an inaccurate translation. The Microsoft Translator app interprets the image of the text as, "Models". Opening the battery compartment reveals the location where 3 AA batteries can be inserted, 2 batteries on the left, and 1 battery on the right. The flat ends of the batteries contact the springs. Above the 1 battery on the right are more buttons: 5. A second set of rectangular + and - buttons. 6. The time settings button. This button has to be held down for 2 seconds to initiate setting the time zone offset from UTC with the + and - buttons. The + and - buttons are rectangular while this time zone and daylight saving time button is round, so you can operate the buttons by feel as you look at the liquid crystal display. After you set the time zone, briefly press the round button 6 again. Now you can enter a time offset. For the USA, this is 0:00 and does not need to be modified. Briefly press the round button 6 again. Now you have the option of turning on daylight saving time with ON or OFF showing on the liquid crystal display by pressing the + or - button. If your area uses daylight savings time, then select ON and briefly press the round button 6 again. Use the + and - buttons to select the month in which daylight savings time begins, which is 3 for March in the USA. Briefly press button 6 again. Use the + and buttons to select the week of the month in which daylight savings time begins, which is 2 for the USA. Briefly press button 6 again. Use the + and - buttons to select the time that the daylight savings time change happens, which is 2:00 for the USA. Briefly press button 6 again. Use the + and buttons to indicate the month in which daylight savings time ends, which is 11 for November in the USA. Briefly press button 6 again. Use the + and - buttons to indicate the week of the month in which daylight savings time ends, which is 1 in the USA. Briefly press button 6 again. Use the + and - buttons to indicate the hour in which daylight savings time ends, which is 2:00 in the USA. To manually set the time or to display 24 hour time, you have to press button 6 for 5 seconds. You can set the year, month, time, 12/24 hour time display. You move between the settings with brief presses of button 6 and modify each setting with the nearby + and - buttons. 7. GPS time synchronization button. Press this button to tell the clock to attempt to get a GPS time synchronization now. Two rings will appear around the satellite symbol in the upper right corner of the liquid crystal display if the clock gets a time synchronization. 8. Toggle button for displaying the time or month/day in big characters. If you display the time in big characters, which is the default, then the month/day displays in small characters in the lower right of the display. If you display the month/day in big characters, then the time displays in the lower right of the display. 9. A small recessed reset switch which seems unnecessary. If you need to reset the clock, then you can simply remove all of the batteries and wait for the quartz display to become blank and then reinsert the batteries. To manually turn off daylight savings time, you can hold down button 6 which is to the right of the + and - buttons in the battery compartment until your time zone is displayed and then briefly press button 6 until ON is displayed, then press + or - in the battery compartment until OFF is displayed, then briefly press button 6. If you have set your time zone and daylight settings options already, then the switching of daylight savings time on or off should be automatic. The clock seems to remember the time zone and daylight savings time settings when I remove the batteries and put the batteries back in a short time later. The clock displays the alarm time in the lower left corner followed by the temperature in Celsius and percent humidity. There does not seem to be an option to display the temperature in Fahrenheit.
