Based on the animated film from DreamWorks, Antz puts you smack dab in the middle of the insect world on a mission to help the free thinking ant Z defeat the cunning General Mandible and hopefully win the heart of Princess Bala. Journey through 19 levels as either Z or Bala and follow the same basic storyline as the film. You'll run across enemy termites and soldier ants, catch a ride on a wasp, and try to avoid the stomping feet and magnifying glass of a child who enjoys setting fire to little bugs. Use pickaxes to defeat your foes, but if you run out, you'll have to use your feet. You start with three lives, each of which has four hearts which you lose as you get hit by bad guys; lose all your hearts and you lose one life; lose all your lives and the game is over. As you journey you'll also pick up the usual bonuses and power-ups. Some will give you back a heart or grant you an extra life. Others will give you more pickaxes or an hourglass to freeze your enemies with. If you collect a hundred rings you'll earn an extra life, and if you find the three keys hidden in every level you'll get a password so that you can start the game again in the same spot. This game is for one player only and is compatible with both the Game Boy and Game Boy Color systems.

not a bad game
Not bad for a bunch of Antz doing what they do best. If you like Mario Brothers games, this is pretty much similar. You do lots of jumping up and down, bash enemies on the head, well most of them. Collect coins for extra lives. Try to find secret Keys for continues and hearts to heal. You can't ask much more from a hand held game. It starts off very easy, but boy, does it get hard as you go along. I still haven't cleared the last board. Too many crazy jumps to make, and if you miss one, you start back from the beginning. Thats the only real fault I see in the game, they made the last board almost impossible to clear. For starters, it is really rare that a Movie turns out to be a good video game. Which I was shocked, I only payed a couple of bucks for it used, since it was old, and to my ... Not bad for a bunch of Antz doing what they do best. In the start of the game it is boring, but you get to learn the basics of jumping and shooting, thats your two main things. You pick up this icon and it gives you 5 shots to fire per icon. Use them wisely as you get to the harder boards. The Story is pretty much just like the movie. The female ant escapes to Insect Topia, and the Hero ant leaves to go find her, and its a long journey. He meets a lot of annoying bugs that want to whack him, don't want to say much cause I don't want to spoil it for the people that want to play this game. The graphics are pretty nice, which I enjoyed. This is my first GBC game, so its a lot different from the original. The music is pretty good, but not great. But if your playing on the go like I normally do, the sound is always almost off. So basically if you enjoy a action platform Movie game, then this is for you and you won't regret it. Its a shame not to many people have bothered with this game, they must think like we all normally do, "Movie games don't quite cut it". But this one does, enjoy.

One of those overlooked classics from yesteryear.
Ah yes... this old cross-compatible hidden gem of a game. I actually picked it up at my local Jay Street Video Games, and I was surprised; this game is actually pretty good and challenging! It flows nicely from a control standpoint, and it rarely ever feels choppy. Also, it's sound engine is hard to emulate, and that's a plus given that these games are emulated in a fashion ala VisualBoy Advance, or bgb for the perfectionist. I purchased this product in the hopes to replace my old cartridge which has a torn label (which I have removed for the sake of repainting) and wanted to buy another one so that I may replace it. Also, it's one of those movie-based games that DON'T suck. One of my strong-points about this game... is the control and sound. As I mentioned earlier, the control doesn't ... As I mentioned earlier, the control doesn't feel "stiff" and doesn't have that "choppiness" or issues with "limited mobility" like in some other games. I mean sure, the protagonist named "Z" doesn't have much speed, but he sure has athletic ability to pick up speed when swinging from tree roots. Also, he can grab ledges that are close to him automatically, which is quite nifty. If that doesn't strike a reference to the "Prince of Persia" games, I'm not sure what else will. The way the main sound system works is what to expect from a Game Boy game, and a bit more added into the mix. Sure, you have your good music while you transverse the level, but the sounds are kept in a basic fashion and they don't come off as a distraction or an annoyance while you play. Most "cheap" games don't do that properly, but this one does, thank your lucky stars. Aaand here come the dislikes. One of the main fidelity issues that I have from a personal standpoint, are blind drops. I can technically understand that the screen isn't big enough for placing rings to point where you need to go... heh, that'd be too easy, because you gain a life from 100 rings. Another issue of mine... the sound mapping. This game did phenomenal to work with the four sound channel hardware limitation, but the sound when you get an extra life... is mapped to the jumping sound. Why not have something "exciting" like when you get an extra life in most games. One example is in Super Mario Brothers, which most of you remember. One other prime example is the Japanese-only Kid Niki for the Game Boy when you get a 1UP Panel, or get over 100 cards when you complete a level. Might be asking for too much on my side, since that'd basically ruin the music this game has to offer. Beggars can't be choosers, that's for sure. In comparison to other crap-tier movie games, this one is a rare breed, it DOES NOT SUCK. Yeah, I'm looking at YOU "Men In Black: The Series"! That game was GOD AWFUL on so many levels, you don't even know. But we're not talking about that are we? No, we're talking about one of those good movie-based games; "Antz" for the Game Boy Color! It has worker ants, it has those enemies that were later stolen in a pirate game (which we won't discuss), it has a password system so you can pick up where you left off, the music is good, AND it follows the story correctly! That's one top contender if you ask me. "Now that we know about the game, should I BUY or RENT?" Having savestates is child's play, but REAL gamers play it on the ACTUAL hardware, so do yourself a favor and BUY this game. If you can beat this in a single sitting, you're just as hardcore and edgy as I am. Let's just hope our children can grow up like a hardcore player. Regards.

It offer a 3 different language, but don't save each level you play and pass. Offer a very low live to play and low opportunity of gain more during the play.
