About this product

Product Information

It could be argued that as much as any other title, the original Pitfall for the Atari 2600 established the entire genre of "platform" adventure games. Through the years, protagonist Pitfall Harry changed with the times, periodically featured in new adventures as technology developed and consoles evolved. The intrepid explorer charts new territory once again with this release of Pitfall: The Mayan Adventure, a launch title for Nintendo's 32-bit Game Boy Advance handheld system.

Based on the original Pitfall: Mayan Adventure which was released for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System in 1994, this game actually features Pitfall Harry's son, Harry Jr., in the starring role. Harry Jr. has inherited his father's amazing agility and love of adventure, though the younger Harry exhibits a style of bravado that is all his own. Players guide the young explorer through multiple levels, collecting treasure and power-ups as he makes his way through the heart of the jungle on a quest to rescue his famous father from the powerful and mysterious warrior spirit.

  • Don't take my word for it.

I remember playing the original Pitfall on the Atari 2600. Wow! That game was incredible when it first came out. But that was in the Dark Ages of home video games. This version for the GBA is vastly superior, but it should be. I'm told it is basically the same as the SNES version, but now it's portable. My first impressions: - The graphics are awesome! - There are too many actions to master right away. - Jump, Whip, Crawl, Sling, Climb, wait is that pit moving? - Ok, there's obviously some treasure over there, but how do I get to it??? - Yikes, look out for that wild boar!!! - Monkeys! Oh come on! Snakes AND Monkeys? - Oh look, I bet that idol pointing to the left is worth something. - What? How come I can't pick it up! That sucks! - Cool! I get to swing on this vine. - Whoa! I didn't see ...

  • Pitfall.

For anyone who has ever played the original version of this game on the SNES or Sega Genesis, you will most likely be sorely disappointed with this version. Seeing as they removed the soundtrack entirely and completely changed the game structure so that there are no more cool bonus levels, just shortcuts. I feel this game was thrown together in a hurry and pushed onto the shelves to see who would fall into the pit trap they set for anyone wanting to reclaim that old nostalgic feeling...heh..irony. For those who've never played the old versions, this is a great and challenging game with many frustrating parts.

  • This game is used to replace the SNES version on the Wii Virtual Console.

This is a classic game for all ages. This game is a very different game compared to the original Pitfall game that came out on the Atari 2600 system. The only problem that I have with this game is that there is no musical soundtrack to go with it. The original version that was on the WII Virtual Console (Sega Genesis) was flawless in its original soundtrack & great quality of animation that went through to make this game. I bought this to replace the WII Virtual Console version because it was pulled off from the WII Shop Channel since it's license was no longer valid as of Jan 1, 2014. Overall, it's still a great game to play. Thank you very much for your appreciation in selling this game. It will be used tremendously in my family.
