A Truly Remarkable Game
About two years ago, I heard about the Portal game series from a friend so I purchased Portal: Still Alive. I enjoyed the game a lot and played it over and over. I was excited when I recently discovered that there was a Portal 2. The first difference between the two games I noticed was the graphics. They were incredible! Normally an Xbox 360 game has poor graphics but this was different. It also had an insanely well planed story even compared to the first Portal. All around, the game is a work of art and will be enjoyed by anyone fortunate enough to play this game. Excellent problem solving game with a witty backstory/narration
Problem solving game that forces you to think outside the box, so to speak. I have enjoyed every moment so far, sans a short period of motion sickness because I was playing on a large screen and seated to closely... the first person view is very tight. Single and Multi Player are similar in design, so it's easily enjoyed by one or two. It challenged my thought processes to solve the problems for advancing through the game, and I appreciate that there is enough open game space to force you to work for the goals, i.e., the riddles are not just given away. Definitely enjoying it so far.Problem solving game that forces you to think outside the box, so to speak. Great nonviolent game that is really fun!
This is a really interesting game. One of the few nonviolent titles available. It takes a lot of thinking to solve the puzzles and the game adds narration that keeps it fun! I highly recommend this title for those parents that want their children to avoid all the blood and guts first person shooters out there. This will even help you to think logically when away from the game! This is a lot better than the first portal, IMO.This is a really interesting game. One of the few nonviolent titles available. I would actually give it more of a 4.5 out of 5 stars. I admit that I never played the first Portal, but after reading other reviews it was clear that you didn't need to in order to play Portal 2. And they were right - there really isn't a story line, at least not one you really need to know. The game is more about solving the puzzles. I bought this game as a gift. I had heard so many positive reviews that I decided my friend would like it, especially since he likes problem solving. He opened the gift wrapping and started playing the game immediately. He played the two player version with one of his buddies. I didn't play myself, but watched the whole time. However, the graphics were not what I bought the game for so it didn't bother me one bit, nor did it bother my friends. The puzzles on the other hand were pretty unique and fun. My friends speed through most of them without too much trouble. There were a few levels that took some creativity to solve, and those stumped them a bit. However, overall I didn't think the difficulty was high - just average. Enough to make you think, but not enough to make you frustrated. (This is based on the 2 player puzzles. I never saw the single player puzzles, which are different and most likely more difficult.) As for the characters themselves (the robots) they were hilarious, especially on 2 player. You can actually mess around and make funny gestures to each other, change the portals as the other is walking through, or simple just kill each other. Of course you don't want to fool around too much, but it made us laugh on several occasions. To sum it up this is a great and simple game. I would recommend it to anyone. The only downfall may be that it is a simple game. If you are looking for something complex, with many tasks or accomplishment, that will take a long time to complete - this is not the game for you. There are no accomplishments besides solving the levels/puzzles. That is right - no coins to collect, no lives, no leveling up, no time limits, no secrete items or areas… Just straight and simple. And for what it is, a puzzle game, Portal 2 is an excellent choice.
